How about these '08 Power Rankings?

Even as a Chargers fan, I find these rankings somewhat laughable. I'm not a fan of pre-season Power Ranking, especially given the fact that FA and Draft haven't been completed.

Anyway, here are the top 4 Rankings:

1) New York Giants
2) San Diego Chargers
3) Indianapolis Colts
4) New England Patriots

Thoughts? This should be fun.

hehehe...

Yeah, the Gints are on top.

Uh huh...

Jets are closing the gap! (and leapfrogging the Bills I guess?)

Not that hard to at least somewhat close a 12 game gap...

I think it is funny that this guy has the Pats ranked 15 spots ahead of the Jets and the Jets are closing the gap. At this rate, the Jets might overtake the Pats by 2012. But then again, that is the year that many predict the world will end. It may take the end of the world to let the Jets finish ahead of the Patriots.

Cowturds will imo... I'm not saying that I like them though.

That's what I'm thinking. If I had to rank the top four, I would say:

1) Pats
2) Chargers
3) Colts
4) Cowboys

Yes, the Giants won the SB, but I see them regressing next year, not becoming better. Just because you win the SB doesn't mean you should be ranked #1 the following year. That's what I hate about these ridiculous pre-season rankings.

Despite their status as champs, this is once again a three team race between the Pats, Bolts and Colts. That's not to say someone else can't win the Super Bowl, just that of those three teams, I'd say it's about 70% that one of them wins it all.

Doesn't this happen every damn year? Every sports writer has the key to way the Patriots are falling apart. For four years we have been "on our way out" and yet somehow we just managed to win every regular season game last year.

The media REALLY want LT to win a Superbowl, I guess, and apparently repeatedly telling the Chargers "you are better than the Patriots" is the way to make that happen.

I can see the Giants at number 1 because you have to respect that they did win the Superbowl, but the Colts and Chargers ahead of NE? Come on. Stop it. It's just bull****. It's always more bull**** and man I am tired of it.

IMO the Chargers should be ranked #1. They beat the Colts with Billy Volek and probably would've won in Foxboro if Gates, Rivers and LT were healthy.

Keep in mind, this is only 1 website's opinion. I don't think any legitimate sports writer can argue "the Pats are on the way out." That would be a ridiculous statement.

Secondly, I believe once the draft is completed, you will see the rankings change quite a bit. Pre-season rankings are bull@#$% anyway and are only opinions, not based on performance.

Yeah, if. If Matt Light played better, we would have won the Superbowl. If Asante could catch, we would have won.

You know what else, San Diego would have lost if Tom Brady didn't have a bad game!

Oh wait, they lost anyway. End of story.

Agreed. I'm just tired of hearing about the Pats dynasty being over. So-called experts always seem to forget when they are wrong.

Maybe, but we're looking at 2008, not 2007. Pats are coming into next year healthly, from what I gather. Chargers have Rivers, Gates, Merriman and several others coming off significant surgeries in the offseason, and LT healing from a bruised MCL. That has to be taken into consideration.

It'll be interesting to see how this season plays out in terms of the Colts and Chargers. The chargers winning in the playoffs was impressive. I'm curious to see if they can own the Colts again this season.

We seem to have Manning's number dialed in for the last 3 years. For some reason, the Colts don't play well against the Chargers. They are always a threat, however, my only real concern will continue to be the Pats.

Manning without Harrison is definitely less of a threat. Seems the Colts may be the ones on their way out

That's the order I would put them in. For those doubting the Pats ability to replace a couple of guys. Remember this. Not many Super Bowl teams pick 7th overall. And, also have the 6th pick in the 3rd round.

Agreed. You're already set on offense - still the #1 ranked offense IMO. As for defense, you still have Bruschi, Vrabel, AD, Wilfork (key vets) as well as a few good FA pickups, and with your draft picks, will fill in any remaining needs. That's why I thought the Pats ranked #4 (per this Power Ranking) was a joke.

Didn't you also lose Stallworth, Wilson and Colvin (and possibley Jr.)? Plus some of the guys you still have (Harrison, Bruschi and Vrabel come to mind) ain't getting any younger.

All that said, I would still put you up there ahead of the Colts and Bolts most likely and probably the G-Men except for that little SB loss issue.......

???

Cut Stallworth due to ineffective play. Gaffney played more snaps at his position for the last 6 weeks and into the playoffs then Donte did. Donte never really caught on here.

Eugene Wilson was a joke. He was deactivated on some weeks by the team. He pretty much lost all playing ability and his ability to stay on the field as well.

Colvin was a cut that may or may not effect us come season time. His massive achilles injury would have surely killed any pass rushing play he had left and if we replace him with a blitzing rookie like Gholston/Groves i would call the match a wash.

At the same time you could also say Moss and Brady are older too. Just because numbers keep on rolling upwards doesnt mean they have to suck more. Age is just a number, as long as your playing well i dont care if your 50.

These rankings are a joke.

Wait another month and someone will have the Pats ranked 1 and Chargers 8.

Pats Ranked 2 chargers 3rd.

Chargers 1 Pats 32.

People just pull stupid ass facts out of their ass and give tiny reasons for why they did so.

There were power rankings after we lost Romeo Crennel and Charlie Weis saying Patriots will now fall back into misery. People will do anything to trash the good teams.

Comin up soon for Charger fans. Phillip Rivers will be thinking about so much money that it hurts his team. Power ranking 12

The Giants are going to win 6-8 games next year and miss the playoffs. Anyone should be able to see Coughlin won't be able to sustain the good vibe from last year. It's so predictable I can't wait for it to happen.
