Re: WAAF Reporting

The guy brings speed and youth to the line. He's 27 and has some experience in a 3-4 system.

Whats better is that his pricetag is more than affordable.

You mean they are signing Monte Beisel again?

This gets old fast.

We all understand Beisel sucked, but that doesn't mean every guy they sign is going to suck as well.

Re: WAAF Reporting

How old was Beisel when the Pats signed him? I thought he was north of thirty but I could be wrong.

Re: WAAF Reporting

Maybe the pats will work out a Welker-type deal where they throw in an additional 7th so that the Panthers don't match. That way it counts as a trade and not a FA signing.

If you're talking in terms of comp picks, it doesn't matter either way; Seward is a restricted free agent, and comp picks only involve gains and losses of unrestricted free agents (you've already paid picks for the player, so why should you "pay" twice?).

Re: WAAF Reporting

BTW...not to rain on the parade (alright, it's only Seward, dribble on the parade) but was this news straight from AAF or were they quoting another source?

I just have a hard time believing that either Hillman, LB, Spaz, Danielle or whoever the hell else is on that show knows that the Pats are going to offer Seward a contract AND that Carolina is not going to match it!

I'd trust the news a little more if it came from someone else or had backing behind it! Just me.

Re: WAAF Reporting

well, we know that b.b. likes versatility. plus, ill trust b.b.'s judgement over mine. i just hope he's not another monty beisel

He's a prospect that fits the M.O. in that he's got the size and played 3-4 in college, good measurables, career interrupted by broken foot so maybe better athlete than 5th would indicate.

Given our track record with backup linebackers (Vrable) as opposed to draft picks (??????) we are hopeful.

No indication he's afraid to tackle (beisel).

Also, they supposedly were high on him in the fifth but he got snatched. that would be post-broken foot (I think).

Thank You.

Mr. Vrable says hi.

Re: WAAF Reporting

Well I'd rather hear about this than more Spygate crap.
I hope that it's true. We need some youth in that linebacking corp.
And I agree on the Beisel thing...YES HE "SHOCKINGLY" SUCKED, but it does not mean that every other young linebacker that we bring in here is going to suck too. Give the kid a chance.

This is the kind of post these threads need more of--the question by the OP is a good one, because I don't much about him either, and then you get 3 pages of "Monty Biesel" vs. "Mike Vrabel" blah blah blah. Good to just have some specific info about the guy.

Re: WAAF Reporting

BTW, one big difference between Sewell and Beisel:

Sewell was a college 3-4 ILB who has played 3 years in the NFL as a 4-3 MLB/SSLB.

Beisel was a college DE who was moved back and forth between DE and OLB with KC after being drafted. The Pats signed him and projected him to 3-4 ILB, a totally new position for him.

They aren't quite the same.

Pre. He broke his foot a few games into his first season, didn't he? Then never got much chance to get back once it healed?

Re: WAAF Reporting

By the way, aren't the Pats sort of due to find a diamond in the rough? Everyone (rightly) praises Pioli & Co. for the FA signings that led to the Super Bowls, but it's been awhile since we've had one of those "surprises." Time for another, I hope.

True. I would say the last one by definition would have to be Rodney. Remember how teams declared he was 'way past his prime'! 2 SB rings had a good deal to do with Rodney.

I'm sorry, that's not a fair comparison, Rodney was a starter and one of the best at his position for years before he came to the Pats.

The Vrabel comparison works best !

Re: WAAF Reporting

Re: 'diamond in the rough' - Wes Welker?

Many people (including quite a few on here) were wondering what we were playing at trading for him last year.
