Schefter: Moss and Pats close to deal

Can't believe I haven't seen anything on this yet. The started Total Access by saying Schefter has learned the Patriots and Moss are closing in on a multi-year deal. Further details are coming up soon, after the commercial break and once they break down the Turner signing/other signings, it looks like.

I'll let those w/o the NFL Network what is said next.

Really, it is good to hear. From the sounds of it. I think Moss was a little surprised that he didn't have much of a market in free agency. That whole tag team with Culpepper thing really reaked of desperation. If people were knocking down his door to give him big deals, why would he need Culpepper who no one wants?

I have a cousin over on the Viking board who is reporting that it's a package deal. The Patriots are close to signing Moss and Culpepper. The plan is to trade Tom Brady to the Jets for a fourth round pick in next year's draft.

Actually, to make it easier, I'll just quote what they had to say on this issue:

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the Patriots are close to re-signing free agent Randy Moss.

Schefter says the Patriots have a "standing multi-year offer to make Moss one of the highest paid receivers in the NFL." Schefter is almost never wrong, but we keep hearing Moss and the Pats are close and wouldn't count out another team like the Rams, Redskins, or Eagles making a last minute run at him.
