Re: Per Reiss: Pats to host Marty Booker
I thought this was a good move, until I looked a little deeper in to Booker's stats. This is what concerned me: Booker started 15 games, caught 50 balls, yet his long reception of the season went for 26 yards. I have to wonder if he's got much left with that type of stat line.
I really feel like the Patriots badly need a receiver or tight end to make plays in the 15-20 yard range, especially in the middle of the field. This SHOULD BE Ben Watson, but for whatever reason, he didn't make many plays outside of the redzone this year. Welker is very good at the underneath stuff, but teams can stop our offense by letting Wes "get his" and paying a ton of attention to Moss. The reason it works is that the majority of Welkers receptions go for less than ten yards. When the Patriots could get bigger chunks of yardage from a receiver other than Moss, their passing game was unstoppable. It's tough to get Welker the ball 15-20 yards down the field, because he's a such a small target, and Moss is too lanky to consistently go over the middle at that distance, he would end up hurt. I am hoping Chad Jackson has the right combination of size and bulk to be the guy that can run the deeper in cuts.
