According to the NYT, it was 2003.

"Matt Walsh, a Patriots employee from 1996 through 2003 who spent much of that time in the video department, said he would like to see the issue resolved."

However according to his wedding announcement, he left in Jan 2002.

"In January 2002, he left the Patriots, and a year later took a job with NFL-Europe, working with the Cologne Centurions. "NFL-Europe is the equivalent of major league baseball farm teams," explains Matt."

And who leaves a team that just one the SB to work for NFL-Europe?

I smell something fishy....

Just stop. This stuff doesn't deserve any real Pats fans attention on this of all weekends.

Maybe he got more responsibility and or money at his new job??

As I said in the other thread, Walsh sounded like he really wanted to snitch. He looked like he was willing to sell his story to the highest bidder if they could get him out of his privacy agreement with the Patriots.

Let me sum up the article for you.

"One time there was this guy. He met a girl. He married that girl."

Unfortunately, thread's like Unorginal's OL play thread don't stay on the front page and the gossipy trash does. But that pretty much fits with the current state of media in the country anyway.

IMO it is interesting. The fudge in dates by a biased reporter is nothing new to this issue. ESPN fudged the date of Goodell's memo, which was issued on Sept 6 2006, by reporting it had been issued on Sept 6, 2007, attempting to cast the Pats' infraction in a worse light. If Walsh left in Jan 2002, that means he left prior to the Patriots' first SB victory, and makes whatever information he may have irrelevant to the Pats SB wins. By stating incorrectly that he left in "2003" it implies he may have had a hand in or some knowledge of infractions affecting championships. If he departed prior to SB 36, the implication is clearly inaccurate.

In fact, it appears Walsh was a short timer in BB's regime.

Why? It's not like the Patriots are about to play the Super Bowl or anything..

:bricks:

(so sick of Spygate and its branches)

What position did Walsh play?

And maybe a very bitter one. He got the job in Europe a year later. I don't think you leave a football team during the playoffs for the unemployment line without a lot of bad blood.

You should really e-mail your information to Mike Florio at Profootballtalk.com. He is reporting, just as the NYTimes intended, that Walsh worked for the Pats through 2003, implying that Walsh participated in some kind of SB shenanigans. If more people were aware that Walsh left the organization prior to the Pats' first Sb victory, it would let some steam out of the boiling kettle.

Florio's a muckraker who thinks Spygate is a massive government conspiracy. I don't know if he'd publish the correct information, even if it's right.

similar to the fudge in dates by a biased NFL commissioner? (ie, pre-season)

Not necessarily. I could be like "I have all kinds of dirt on the Patriots organization, but I want you to give me face time and put my name in lights and give me money and legal protection" even if it's not true. In fact, he sounds like a 5 year old kid going "I have a secret but I'm not telling, nyah nyah" because he's looking for attention. Sorry, but I'm not buying this, and Goodell isn't either.

If we've learned anything in this culture, it's that just about anybody will do just about anything for their 15 minutes. I'm sure as soon as spygate happened, a cash register went off in Walsh's head. Honestly, I've been expecting this to happen since day one. Some bitter slob decides to cash in on the fact that he worked in the Pats' video dept. I'd be really surprised if he actually had anything.

I love it. Ummm listen up bud, it's been PROVEN that the Patriots have cheated. It's been PROVEN that they had a camera guy forcibly removed from Lameau Field last year. It's been PROVEN that the NFL Commissioner destroyed any evidence about PRIOR cheating without any oversight from the owners.

Sorry ladies, but the facts are on our side, not yours. But it's been funny watching all you bandwagon jumpers cry "prove it!" all year knowing full well the League destroyed the evidence. Well, unfortunately for you guys, it's just about time for the REAL dirty laundry to come out. I can't wait. LOL

"There was no indication that it benefited them in any of the Super Bowl victories. I'm not sure there is a coach in the league that doesn't expect that their signals are being intercepted by some way by opposing teams. That is why they go to the great lengths (to conceal signals)."

Game.

Set.

Match.

Run along now, the short bus is waiting...

Really? Funny I just heard the commish, who headed the investigation, say the Pats gained no competitive advantage. EVER. So where are you getting your crackpot theories from, a tinfoil hat? BWAHAHAHAH!!!

yeah, if this guy had nothing to say, why would he issue such a disclaimer for the stuff he knows? people all over the league have been waiting a disgruntled ex patriot employee to come out on all of this, and this guy is their man. take it from some of the rumblings i've heard...what he knows will be BIG. expect more to come out on this in the sunday papers. sorry pats "fans".

Funny, but from the quotes I read he said absolutely NOTHING. You're seeing butterflies in an ink blot. Keep dreaming.

First of all. Source?

Second of all, if there was "no indication" he wouldn't have destroyed the teapes.......and most certainly not before any of the owners could get a look. Again, simple common sense and logic.

Watch the Commish's State of the NFL annual speech. It's all there, genius. He delivered it today. Keep sharp objects away from yourself, wouldn't want the tragic disappointment to kill you. The vindication of the Patriot Dynasty is gonna do major damage to your dark soul.

also understand walsh knows a lot more than just about the videotaping from the past two seasons. oh, there was a LOT more than that going on in patriot-land. remember all the stuff about micing defensive player helmets and killing radio frequencies of the opposition coaching staff? hmmmmm

Unless "deep throat" Walsh spoke to you, which I doubt since he's spoken to NO ONE, you have nothing to offer. Run along, back to your dreary life of blowout defeats and incessant whining. Stop biting the boots of your betters. Cheers.
