Moss and court mentioned in the same sentence

If it is really legit I'm wondering why this isnt all over ESPN?

But why would someone make this up, the radio station looks legit

And for all we know some local yokel named Randolph "Randy" Moss who works down at the 7/11 could have beaten up his girlfriend and she got a TRO (temporary restraining order). Next thing you know, some intern at the radio station misreads the crime ledger and puts it on the air. Stranger things have happened......

I can't find anything on Google. Search Randy Moss and there is nothing on this story. Usually it goes through AP and shows up there first.

Please be a hoax! Like the Opie and Anthony Brady suspension thing!

Wasn't there a Tennessee state trooper with the same name who had a legal problem....??

Bingo.

A month ago, there was a story about some State Trooper named "Randy Moss" who had a restraining order. Someone posted a funny thread about it here. My guess - - someone got confused doing an internet search.

Please note, the "journalist" Rozzie Franco and her illustrious resume:

http://www.cflradio.net/rozzie_franco_bio.htm

Rozzie Franco attended Mainland High School in Daytona Beach. She is a graduate of Florida International University in Miami with a B.A. in English literature. After graduation, Rozzie worked as a bartender in Miami's South Beach clubs. When Rozzie decided it was time to move on, she began a career in pharmaceutical sales and led her sales team to become the top selling reps in the company. In 2006, after returning to Daytona Beach to be closer to family, she was offered a job in the news department at WNDB-AM 1150. In 2007, she joined WDBO-AM 580 and became a weekend news reporter. In less than three months Rozzie became part of the morning news team as a full time reporter/producer.

Until such time as someone other than this 2007 version of Edward R. Murrow confirms this report, this thread is locked down.

Nobody seems to be running with this.

This is the type of "story" that would be all over the Drudge Report - Nada!

I have no idea why this thread has not been placed in the dump.

Just Called the Newsroom at 580AM....

So with all the questions about the legitimacy of the Randy Moss report from 580AM, I decided to call the newsroom at the radio station PHONE via Website: (321) 281-2030. Unfortunately, they're standing by their story and have the court documents in-hand to support the claim. The guy who answered was surprisingly helpful and answered my questions.

New Info that I got from this guy:
-Restraining order was filed in Broward County, Florida on January 6th, 2008, which was Wild Card Weekend. (Obviously the Patriots had a it off.)
- This guy in the newsroom is just as surprised as we are that the national media hasn't run with it. He did say that 790AM in Miami was also reporting it.

I have absolutely no reason to make this up, nor did the guy in the newsroom. He said he has the court documents in his possession. I don't think this thread should be locked. It's no longer a rumor.

ORIGINAL NEWS STORY via 580AM Website:
One of the NFL's top athletes is in trouble again.

New England Patriot's wide receiver Randy Moss has been hit with a temporary injunction for protection against dating violence.

According to the victim, he committed a battery upon her causing serious injury and then refused to allow her to seek medical attention.

The affidavit reveals Moss cannot come witchin 500 hundred feet of the victim and cannot use or possess firearms.

Moss's troubles started in high school. He served a 30-day sentence for kicking a high school classmate.
He was kicked out of Florida State University for marijuana use, arrested for domestic violence and then arrested for pushing a Minneapolis police officer with his car.

A hearing in the case is scheduled on January 28th.

The court will determine to file a permanent judgment of injunction for protection against dating violence.

His attorney Tim Dipiero was unavailable for comment.

Is someone stalking RM? Who has been ordered to stay away?

OK, I'll merge and reopen the thread. I'm still skeptical - - why didn't Rozzie's report have that info in it? Any 1st year Journalism major knows the rule about the "4 W's" - - What, Who, Where and Why.

.........Oh, I forgot, Rozzie the bartender may not have taken any Journalism classes.

Re: Just Called the Newsroom at 580AM....

I imagine Belichick was made aware of this before the Jax game and Moss played 55 of 58 snaps (per Reiss) so this is just a personal matter for him. Restraining order, whatever. Probably some form of he said, she said.

Re: Just Called the Newsroom at 580AM....

OK, so what is the worst that can happen to Moss? The worst in our eyes would be people calling Moss a woman beater or something.

Re: Just Called the Newsroom at 580AM....

Petitions for restraining (protection) orders are typically filed in a court. Unless Florida has a different procedure, would a court in Florida be open on Sunday, January 6th.

If I wanted to, could I go take out a restraining order against L.T.?

IMO, if there was any type of assault, there would be a police report. It's possible that the media can't run with this story cause there are no details to report.

A quick perusal of the website doesn't back up this assertion.

I think anyone can get a temporary restraining order on almost anyone else without difficulty. I would imagine courts err on the safe side and grant these without the need of any evidence just in case there is possible trouble. For example, a fan was granted a restraining order against David Letterman

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfgate/detail?blogid=7&entry_id=2282

So I would reserve judgment until more information came out.

Remember Crystal Gail, the psycho b|tch who accused those Duke Lacrosse players of rape? This sounds like someone trying to get some money from him at the worst possible time. She may think he will just want to give her money to make it go away so close to all these important games. Those psychos can be very crafty about extracting money.

INNOCENT until proven guilty. Rmember Crystal Gail.

Round the wagons, folks, we are in for a f*cking sh|tstorm. Great.

:bricks:

we are to believe a guy who has 12 post!???
We have newbie idiots report stuff like this before.
They get high on seeing all the reactions.

I'm waiting until Reiss reports it. :rocker:

Absolutely right. As I pointed out earlier, the story lacks attribution, sources, etc. If it's wrong, Moss has huge grounds for a lawsuit. If it's right, it was very poorly reported. But the key missing component in my mind is lack of ARREST information. Any crackpot can ask for a restraining order.

It's a Sports Radio station. Does WEEI post a story of everything that is on the Sports Flash?

If they scooped this... DUH! You bet they would.
