I'm just glad that they didn't blow the whistle and call the play dead if they thought Faulk was tackled....

For a split second I thought it was the fake-botched-snap-direct-snap-to-Faulk but as soon as Brady's arm started to come down I could see him hugging the ball to his groin so I think I was less faked out than at least half of the Jag's defense.

Holy crap....

I don't know if it was just me, but I think 99% of Gillette Stadium was fooled by that play. I saw Brady go up like I've seen a handful of times before knowing it was a direct snap to Kevin Faulk. Then all of a sudden, someone threw a football to Wes Welker. I had no friggin' idea what the heck just happened. Brady deserves an Emmy award for that one.

I was right at the end zone where this play occurred and it was perplexing, to say the least, when Brady stood with his arm raised. I saw a bunch of the defensive players jump all over Faulk and then suddenly, it was Brady throwing the TD... What a play - magnificent.. everyone was talking about it for a while....

We had over twenty people at my friend's house, and had been drinking beers and rum punch since well before game time, and I can safely say, we were all fooled....even after looking at the replay!

the last time the Pats ran the direct snap to Faulk play in the playoffs, I called it (sheer luck, I admit) before the snap, so when they ran that play last night I started yelling, Hey its my play again.....

But I was fooled

The Statute of Liberty play is when the quarterback drops back to pass, and as he raises his arm back as if to throw, the end is coming around and takes the ball from him. So called, because at the height of the play, the QB supposedly looks like the Statue of Liberty. The QB isn't supposed to turn around to hand the ball off, otherwise, that is just a run of the mill end around.
I don't know if I have seen a true SoL play in my life. the jump fakes that Brady does, like last night, don't qualify, in my opinion.

Such a great play,they know the defensive players watch the QB,they react to him and Faulk,a play which had been run a few times before,it was beautiful....I think that play took a lot of wind out of the sails of the Jags defence...

im glad we did it. 1 because it worked. 2 because we've used the direct snap to faulk on like every 2 pt conversion we've tried and teams will probably catch on sooner or later. this gives em somethin else to think about

I called that two yard gain by Maroney in the 2nd quarter. Exactly as it happened.

The really special thing about this play is that they went spread empty backfield, and then Faulk broke off the line and stood near Brady just before the snap. So they were selling pass to begin with.

Just brilliant that they would show one thing, put a 10% doubt in the Jags' minds about Faulk running it, and then pull of the play.

What a way to sell it EVEN before the fake.

It's also nice to see that they've saved their strategery for the playoffs. Other than the Brady-to-Moss-to-Brady-to-Gaffney play vs. the Steelers, we haven't seen much this year...that I can recall.

On TV, it was obvious (at least to me) that he still had the ball.

On the other hand, I was slow to realize that it was a fake of the direct snap play. I just saw Brady concealing the ball on what was obviously some kind of fake, then whirling to throw it.
