Re: "Man-hands" MacMullen back to doing what she does best
Sorry, PE, but I gotta call BS on you. Seymour did NOT blame BB. His TRAINER blamed BB.
DB,
I phrased myself poorly. I should have said "Seymour authorized his employee to blame BB, instead of doing it himself." By not stating my point in that way, I set myself up for a lot of justifiable criticism.
Do you hava a link to the Prisco article? Also, with the money these guys get, I am 100% certain they have to submit their rehab routine to the team for approval and that the team has the right to monitor their progress with status updates and visits.
There is a cbssportsline "notes" article on this from around March 2007, and I also believe Prisco was interviewed by Felger at the time, back in the day before I stopped listening to his show when Felger became a punchline.
Its pure speculation on your part that he re-injured the knee. Also, Every one rehabs differently. Not to mention that the doctor could have missed something. Just like the TEAM DOCTOR did with Ty Law and his Lis Franc fracture that they diagnosed as a friggin high ankle sprain.
True. But reading between the lines, a player has minor surgery that has a 4-6 week recovery period for most athletes. The player decides to rehab on his own away from the team, unlike most players who stay at Gillette and rehab responsibly. The player has a history of not abiding by team rules. Using his friend and conditioning coach, he develops prolonged pain in the knee after doing leg presses. The pain compromises the players ability to do his job. Now the same S & C coach comes out and blames the coach for Seymour's problems. Why would he even do that, unless shifting blame for the fiasco from himself and his client? My guess is that there is contention between the organization and Seymour's camp over the way he conducted his rehab, and it has boiled over into the press.
I don't remember this article. But if Borges was such a good friend, wouldn't he have also written about Seymour's knee issues?
Seymour may have been concealing the lingering effects of his knee injury prior to his contract negotiations. For Borges to have publicly discussed the injury after the 2005 season, prior to a long term contract agreement, would have been counterproductive to Seymour's interests. I believe Borges may have mentioned Seymour's knee discomfort in last season's article, but as secondary to Seymour's elbow problem, as a way of making excuses for the drop-off in his play. But Borges was, until his termination from the Globe, continually reminding people of his close relationship with Seymour.
I can't stand "Man Hands" either. But IMO you are blowing much of this article out of proportion. You attribute things to Seymour that he never actually said. To imply that Seymour is tanking it since he got his extension is stupid. Especially when you look at the fact that MANY people in this BOARD blamed BB for Seymour's injury. Many people questioned using Seymour as a FB and thought it was stupid. So, why is it now that here is an article regarding it, you act like no one on this board every said anything of the sort?
I don't believe Seymour is "tanking it", but I believe he has behaved irresponsibly in a way that has compromised his on-field performance. His friendship with Borges and Ty Law suggest to me that he has become "Seymour incorporated" instead of the "Richard Seymour, Patriot and team leader" we grew to love, a man who was riding a bullet to the HOF.
