It all depends how Gonzo values himself compared to the good of the team. If he starts to believe he's more important than the team... I would start entertaining offers.

But the important thing to note is... we have NO IDEA what is actually going on with negotiations or how he's approaching them.

We just have speculation.

Though I agree it would be fair payment in a Gonzalez trade, the team would definitely take a step back this year. We don’t have a competent player to take his place and to be solid starting CB, let alone anyone near his talent level.

The defense would be bottom 10 without him.

I love LaPorta, he’s the type of player we hope Raridon becomes, at least as a pass catching TE. And having two extra 1’s and an extra 2 could help with the rebuild, which it truly becomes a rebuild if we trade Gonzalez. I’m hoping it doesn’t come to this.

Yeah, I don’t think that’s how the Patriots play it because it’s really not great for them either to maybe have a CB1 or maybe have a huge hole in our roster. I think they trade him and get the picks and we all move on with our lives.

It is not fair payment.
There is a zero % chance Det is giving us 2 first rd picks, a 2nd and La Porta.

Im firmly on team sign Gonzo but if you get an offer remotely close to that you take it before they put the pipe down.

If Gonzo will take a deal slightly better than Witherspoon's, I'd keep him.

If Gonzo won't take that deal, but will just play on his current contract and revisit talks after the season and isn't a distraction, I'd keep him.

If Gonzo won't take that deal and also won't play and is a distraction, I'd trade him.

The package described is even more than I'd expect. Two firsts for a guy who is holding out and in need of a record-breaking contract would seem like plenty to me.

Is there any amount that is too much to pay?

I mean if we REALLY REALLY need him, and we’ll have a disappointing year if we don’t pay it?

Do we complain but grit our teeth and pay it, or is there a demand that is too much?

Us being predominantly a zone defense is probably factoring in the discussions within the team. Gonzo is a way better man coverage player.

Crazy how much people downplay the significance of an elite corner. Trade him this year and you might as well tank the season cause this defense will be horrific to watch. No edge rushers and a corner room of an in and out Davis, Marcus Jones is good not great, and then literal carp whose names aren’t even worth mentioning.
