There's a bunch of guys who showed they have potential who are not making the intiial 53 man squad, but I think they're probably confident they'll be available to be re-signed to PS. There may be some other shoes to fall as other teams cut veterans, but I think even the vets are looking at getting signed for week 2 at this juncture so their contracts are not guaranteed.

To me the 53 man roster is all about who you think can and can't pass through waivers to the PS when it comes to younger guys or those with limited experience.

If it were me I'd pass on a 3rd QB, especially one drafted in the 7th round who would likely make it through to the PS. Though he could be someone moved later to make room for another available player when the cuts are finalized.

If my math is correct, there are about 20 new faces from last year's roster, more on offense than defense.

2. The starting defense, save Chaisson and Hawkins, is identical.

However I do think the depth on both sides of the ball is worse.

I suspect that Vrabel was content with the competition he held for backup CB. Obviously, he'll sign an upgrade if he finds one at the right price (same as any position but QB), but I don't see it happening.

Our situation at EDGE is truly sad.
We are counting on Ponder to start.
Our backups (Jacas and Hutchins) don't belong on the field at this point.

I think that the Offense is stronger than a couple of weeks ago, having added van Roten, Kiner and Rouse. Even adding Conley to the PS could be of value.

The Defense had many problems, literally depth in every group. The Defense needed depth at DL, ILB, EDGE, CB and S. All they got so far was a safety who probably can play some corner as needed.

The best news is that they are promoting the silver pants. That's a good sign this is their primary.

I agree with 1, fingers crossed we’re correct here. For 2, we’re also down Landry for now. I’m comfortable with Byard being able to replace Hawkins; hopefully Jones and Ponder will also be able to do so at the edge, but that’s more of a question mark.

On the depth question, I think you might be looking at last year from the playoff perspective and not from cutdown perspective. I think many people were very concerned with our depth coming out of preseason last year. Many of them managed to prove themselves when needed during the season. Given the staff did a very good job keeping the right players last year and coaching / scheming them up as needed, I’m expecting that they’ll be able to do the same this year. They clearly were concerned with RB3, S3, and OT3 or they wouldn’t have made those trades. And they wouldn’t have signed Van Rotan if they weren’t concerned about OL interior depth. But we’ve been worried all offseason about DE/OLB and ILB, and they still have done nothing to address that. Makes me think they’re a lot more comfortable with that than we are. At least I hope that’s the case and that they’re right.

Think CB will work itself out, and isn’t as bad as people say. I think Prunty and a few young guys will step in just fine.

I disagree about the depth on offense being worse. I think it's substantially better. I mean, Caeden Wallace was still here last year, so was Verdarian Lowe. Jack Westover was getting 20 snaps a game.

I have serious concerns about the coaches believing that they are able to "coach-up" nearly all the players the team acquires.

Is the depth worse? Compared to last year:

Qb Devito/Dobbs toss up
Rb Gibson vs the new guy Not earth shattering
Wr. Pretty much same guys. Diggs abd Boutte out Brien and Doubs in everyone else same
TE Hooper/Raridon TE3 non factor both years.
OT 100% better to have Lomu over Lowe and the other flotsam and jetsam is similar
IOL last year we had Brown and Wallace this year we have Brown and VR

offense depth no worse probably a little better

Edge. Last year we had Jennings and ponder. This year we have ponder and the bc rookie. I liked Jennings the coaching staff didn’t.

The depth on offense is better overall.

On defense, I think the Pats secondary and DT depth is better with the continued development of young players. The edge and LB are just as concerning as last year; we’ll see how the young guys do. It’s a wash right now.

At edge, we’re counting on Ponder and Jones to hold the fort down as Jacas and Hutchins develop. I gotta believe we’ll be hitting that waiver wire pretty hard come tomorrow. They gotta bring in someone.

1. First, I have to make an apology to Q. Hutch for making him my "worst" draft pick of April. I think more than once I called him a wasted pick. Well, the guy played well enough to make the team and made me eat my words. Good for him.

2. Why are C.Canada and W.Rousse on this football team and Vildor and any other OLman you want to name on it. I swear I have never heard the name Walter Rouse mentioned before this list came out and... Wait a minute, Is he the guy we Traded for w5ith the Vikings? Well then I get THAT choice, but Vildor had a great camp and Canada NEVER stood out. I don't get that one.

3, I REALLY hope the Pats put a claim out on Ur Bernard, whom the Eagles waived and hope to get back on their PS. We have 5 DLmen and I think Bernard would be worth the roster spot to as depth and could be monster in 2-3 years

4. The one thing we know for certain is that whatever the roster looks like today, it will be different when we line up against the Seahawks in a couple of weeks
