2026 Patriots Roster Cuts Thread

Do we bring back CB Alex Austin as depth?

Nfl draft scout. But ai did say 4.46. I posted to try to correct it. I dont know which one is accurate
And to be honest, it's not really important.
Who were some of our best 3rd down backs?
Kevin Faulk - 4.57
James White - 4.57
These guys were clutch

Speed is not the be all end all.

I don't know, but i'm guessing it opens at 6pm tomorrow.

From Gemini:

Roster Cut and Signing Timeline
    • Sunday, 6:00 PM ET: Final roster cutdown deadline to reach 53 players.
    • Immediate (Vested Veterans): Players with four or more accrued seasons are "released" and can sign with any team right away.
    • Monday, 1:00 PM ET: Deadline for teams to submit waiver claims for younger players with less than four years of experience.
    • Monday Afternoon (Waiver Clearance): Shortly after 1:00 PM ET once waivers process, unclaimed players clear waivers, become free agents, and can be signed to any roster or practice squad.

I agree. I always look for the 10yd split with the 3 cone and short shuttle. If I ran a team that would be my priority most of the time. Quick. Sudden. Change of direction. Hit 1st ask questions later

Is the waiver window already open? If someone gets cut today, could they be claimed today, or do teams have to wait until after cut down deadline tomorrow?

They have until Monday 1:00 to claim no matter when released.

Why would you release a player now, and tell them you want them on the PS giving other teams more time to consider him?

I don't understand the advantage.

Do we bring back CB Alex Austin as depth?
Woods replaced Austin once. Has Austin done anything to think that he is now a better choice?

I don't understand the advantage.
There's no advantage, per se, but teams claiming off waivers have to be willing to put that player on the 53, and, in cases like Dixon's, take on the salary guarantee.

With respect : as my interest in preseason games wanes, so too does my Iinterest in early cuts. The HC says the team isn’t deep. These players are cut BEFORE another 20+. Clearly they aren’t on the cusp of the (now defunct) pro bowl.

Cutdowns just started.
We are not done with roster moves yet.
I'm sure if there was a LB/Edge worth moving on they would consider it.
Making one move doesn't preclude them from making more.
ive always thought this is where BB did his best work finding players of the scrap heap that could still play with better coaching.

We could carry 4: Spillane, Eliss, Britt and Obiazor )or Jacobs)
From a thread title you started. I think we'll have LBers with both Obiazor and Jacobs. could be wrong though.

"

"We often carry 5 DL's, 5 EDGE, and 5 ILB's."

4.57, he is slow as molasses

Much slower than either Larison or Jam.
Not that slow.

We need a replacement for A. Gibson. Hopefully this is the guy.

Side note: The Tarheels are up 15-10 early in the 3rd.

15-10 with 4 mins left in the 4th....UNC ball deep in its own territory. TCU went for it on 4th and 2.....the QB didn't run for a first down and instead chose to sail a ball into the EZ too high. Rain in Ireland...slippery conditions.

Seems we are telling some of the players today, not necessarily sending in the paperwork that gets them released till the deadline?

The 'paperwork' is a Notice of Termination that is filed electronically by the team to the league office.

It seems it's totally up to the team to decide when to tell the player and when to file the notice to the league.

All the league cares about is that we're down to 53 by 6PM tomorrow.

Random thought - seems like the Pats have somehow found a lot of potential future gems at WR. It's early, but Dixon, DeGennaro, Dorner all looked solid in practice/preseason. Hoping some of them stick around on the PS and keep developing. While the depth chart is full for now, AJ Brown and Mack Hollins will not be around for all that long in the grand scheme.

And Demario Douglas unless he renews.

Thought about mentioning him, but considering how they've talked about him this offseason and his lack of preseason playtime, it feels like he is part of their future plans and is a likely in-season extension candidate.
