2026 Red Sox Thread

Tunes, check out The Joy of Sox blog, esp the stuff on the Yankees.

Some merciless stuff in there, for sure.

He's rarely solving the 9th inning without creating baserunning drama. Yes, he's generally solving it, but much too often within an inch of not.
Still throwing 100MPH. He's also 27 for 29 in save opportunities for the year.

He's getting into trouble, I'm guessing his WHIP is up from last year.
It is, and overall his numbers are slightly off from last year but last year he was absolutely sick. His whip and other numbers are still better than they’ve been in years outside of last year

Not doubting what you’re seeing by the way, but it could just be he set a ridiculous bar last year. They’re obviously still winning with him!

Baseball is weird. How do you sweep the Dodgers away and then lose a series to the A's at home? I suppose the old adage "you will win a 3rd of your games, you will lose a 3rd of your games, what matters is what happens to the other 3rd that matters", rings true.

Whitlock and Chapman ...
Not gonna see that happen very often.
Ahh well, whip the Champs, loose to chumps... welcome to professional sports.

Onto Toronto!

Something something 2004 Dolphins game on MNF.

The bats have gone back to early season form.

Back to playing like June...
C'mon Boyz, get your **** together!

Anthony,Story and Slaten are all playing baseball in either Portland or Worcester starting tomorrow.
Neither Anthony nor Story has played in a live game since May.
Crochet has finally started throwing but it's in the early stages. Not enough time to build up a base to start games but he could be a dominant reliever in the playoffs. 100 mph with command, maybe could even pitch 2 innings. That would be huge. A starter who throws 98 mph can usually throw 100 in short relief. Makes you think about what The Miz could as a closer. He throws 103 as a starter. So 105? 106?
Anyway we're a week or two before we see any if these guys in Boston. But by October, Anthony and Story could be the best 2 hitters
in Boston. That offense would be a bona fide offense. We'll see how it plays out.

Crochet sucked hard before he was shut down this year, era over 6.
I think he overdid it last year.

What do I know, I'm just a chump

He was playing hurt. Tried to tough it out. Shouldn't have. He's one of the top 3 starting pitchers in MLB. Skenes has been considered the best or at least top 3 but hes been truly horrible this year. Worse than Crochet was when he was pitching hurt earlier this year.
But both Crochet and Skenes are still young.
Skubal is older. Miz is great but he doesn't pitch deep into games and throwing that hard he will end up hurt very soon.
Sox are very lucky to have Crochet and Tolle. Crochet already an ace and Tolle getting near it. What gives you hope for the future is both are power pitchers who throw hard but that's not all they do. Both have a variety of quality pitches than can induce soft contact ala Sonny Gray. Thats very important for a true ace since if you're always trying to strike guys out you will not have longterm success.
It also takes a lot more pitches to pike up strikeouts meaning you're not going as deep into games. Miz rarely goes past 6 innings.
That hurts a team especially in the playoffs where you wear out a bullpen and sre forced to use mediocre relievers sooner or later.
Crochet and Skubal, when healthy, go deep.
There's not enough time left for Crochet to build up enough innings to start in the playoffs. Byt there's a chance he could be ready by October to be a dominant reliever.
That alone would be huge.
