Guregian: Boutte Requested a Trade Back in April

Clearly wasn't himself because his numbers were lower and it doesn't support your narrative?
At least try to not be dumb, he played in a snowstorm and in below zero temperatures, and in the superbowl the ol couldn't stop anyone. The team played against what 4 top 10 defenses? He had a concussion, was held out until it cleared up and then started playing in cold weather against top defenses, it isn't a knock on Boutte, but it doesn't support your argument. He was healthy when he came back, he didn't make as many catches as he did playing creampuffs in warm weather conditions.
Disagree. He was clearly not the same.

I hope the team brass is wise about this - - It is foolish to trade Boutte right now. Period.
There is no reason to jettison away one of the 3 best WR's (maybe #1 re: chemistry with your star QB) when:
1. Doubs has not shown 1/2 the amount of connection with QB, nor comfort within this new system.
2. KW hasn't proven to be a well-rounded WR option yet
3. Injury will almost certainly hit the WR corp at some point

IF the room is fully healthy, and IF Doubs & KW are progressing, then maybe consider it in Oct for the trade deadline to max his value for a desperate team. But that's it.
Sure, you won't pay him FA dollars after this season, but he could either help you get to (and win) the playoffs - OR, you need to get a max return for him after ~4-6 weeks, to fill a weak spot on the team.
Spot on and echos what I’ve been saying.
Boutte can help us win THIS YEAR. A year where we have very high aspirations.
You don’t trade him for peanuts because you have UDFA WRs with potential that may help way down the road.
If we exposed these WRs to the PS, chances are rare they get picked up by another team.
And even if they did, I can guarantee we will have UDFA WRs next year at this time with just as much “potential “.

Boutte probably thinks he's better than Doubs and was deserving of the $$$ that Doubs got. He may be right, but that's not how it works in the NFL for 6th round players with limited service time.

Disagree. He was clearly not the same.

Worth consideration is that he went out with the concussion against the Ravens, a game right after the Bills game. It did seem that defenses adopted the Bills game plan after that and cut off an element of our passing game that continued into the post-season. Me saying this isn't really a comment on Boutte specifically, but rather defenses seemed to have at least keyed in on something post-Bills.

What does he bring as a compensatory pick at the end of the year if (when) he leaves? That's the floor.

Of course you do.
I wouldn’t be giving the opinion I am if I agreed with the opposite of it since I think through the factors before arriving at a conclusion

The Texans just lost Jayden Higgins for the season and are pretty thin behind him as WR 2. I wonder if that prompts a call for Boutte.

A 4th that could be a potential 3rd.

Houston has almost everything in place, but Stroud hasnt been the same since injury.
And let’s not help him get back to form in any way!

Boutte seems to playing the good solider here and is also a solid player. I would hang onto him until the deadline and if no real offer comes our way keep him and then let him walk in March.

A 3rd is helping the Pats.
Not in 2026 it’s not.
A trade to Houston for a 3rd would help them in 2026 and hurt us.
Maybe helps us in 2027, maybe.

Only if they don’t sign FA’s that cancel his deal out.

I suspect next offseason will be quieter in UFA because actual cash spending has been up significantly past 2 years. Krafts have not historically done that for 3 years running.

Plus Drake/Gonzo need contracts.

So could be a pretty mundane offseason next spring.

Boutte could fetch a 4 if he signs a nice deal and Pats don’t sign much.

I think a lot of that depends on his numbers this year. Even with a slight uptick in his stats this season I think he could get a contract like Doubs got but if someone gets dinged up and he gets closer to 750-800 yards I think he could top Doubs contract and net us a decent comp pick.

‘The same’. What has he ever been ? A VG rookie who got figured out and isn’t smart enough to adapt.

I think he was never much to start with…

I feel next season we might not sign any FAs and probably let go of carlton davis, mack hollins , boutte and probably pop too . We need wide recievers at rookie wage scale. And when maye gets paid only one wr can be paid . So next 3 years are crucial to maximize maye potential to probably get number 7.
