Guregian: Boutte Requested a Trade Back in April

Brown’s knee hasn’t given out, they can’t live their lives under the assumption it will this season.

Neither should they "live their lives" under the assumption that an aging receiver with a known knee problem is immune to injury.

Boutte is under contract for this season only, so either you pay him, trade him or let it play out and lose him for nothing in return next year. They’re about to pay Gonzo megabucks… so you can kiss any compensatory picks goodbye.

Yep. Those are indeed the options.

… I reject specifically, apropos of the topic of this thread, any notion that his request for a trade ought not at all be held against him.
That confused me.

I think you just said that Boutte requesting a trade should be held against him.

Is that so? Why? Has there been a clamor against Boutte as a result of his asking for a trade? I’ve not seen one. Did I miss it?

This idea, that players have no right to want to get paid more, or play somewhere else is as authoritarian as it gets. What's next, should they have to call the coaches Massah?

I misspoke. Signing your own players does not affect the compensatory process. But it’s an arbitrary process by the NFL that rarely pays anything back.
You may not like the formula, but it is anything but "arbitrary".

#1 in 2024 and #2 in 2025 for WR snaps, that’s correct… not “wrong.”

Production is the barometer, he is a solid #3 boundary WR, which makes him a solid #4 in any decent WR room.

Good player, but not the guy you overpay. Considering what WR’s are making nowadays, he surely has outsized expectations for what he thinks he deserves.

Next year Drake Maye becomes eligible for an extension, undoubtedly he’ll become one of, if not the most expensive player in the entire NFL. But you think the cap doesn’t exist, so you have ridiculous takes like this one.

They paid Brown and Doubs, they’re not paying Boutte unless he takes a #4 type WR deal… even then, they probably have younger, better, cheaper WR’s already on the roster.

I can explain it to you, but I can’t understand it for you.
Boutte doesn’t need to be paid hr is under contract.

This ^ is word salad nonsense to deflect from you being wrong.

I can’t keep refuting, when you keep repeating the same wrongheaded dreck over and over.

I can see you are committed to your current level of understanding.
Hahahaha I lay out exact stats and compare all games they both were healthy and literally prove my point beyond a doubt and you come bs with a bs response like that.
You don’t care about facts, you just care about trying to escape being wrong.
Perhaps if you listened to people who know a lot more about the game than you (the board is full of them ) you would learn something instead of wallowing in a pathetic effort to distort facts to avoid admitting you are wrong.

So far your “stats” have been pure fiction. PFR actually did the math for both of us and proved you completely wrong.

Also if you need to create hand picked qualifiers, or pretend a regular season is 21 games not 17, or need us to use our imagination where Boutte is far better than he has actually ever been… then your take is hot garbage.

I’m not going to keep responding to you repeating already debunked nonsense.

Boutte is a 500-700 yard WR, because facts say so. All your bullsht dancing doesn’t change anything.

If I have to explain NFL negotiations 101 again then you are being intentionally obtuse.
Boutte is under contact. If I have to explain to you that this means he doesn’t need to be signed you are being dishonest.

Wrong. You culled PFR stats that were not accurate for the time Boutte played and was healthy.
My numbers which are 100% correct came from PFR. The differe bc r is I did am honest comparison and you tried to cover for being caught with your four in your mouth by manipulating.

Create what? Those are the actual 21 consecutive games he played (the only 21) where he was healthy and playing.
I think you should stop responding because you are wrong, continuing to dog yourself deeper into a hole and embarrassing yourself.

Oh and finally if you don’t count his rookie year where he was active and barely saw the field, Boutte per 17 games averages 668.3 and 5.3 TDs
Doubs career number per 17 is 698 and 6.
Per PFF.
If you ignore the 5 games he played last year while clearly still recovering from injury Boutte has better numbers.

So to conclude if both are healthy Boutte produces a little more than Doubs
If Boutte has to play 20% of his games hobbled, Doubs catches up.

Blah blah blah….

Pro Football Reference isn’t in a conspiracy against you.

Get a grip and stop sniffing glue.

Boutte wants to get paid now… you pretending like that’s not a factor is maybe why you’re struggling with this.
We've established that Boutte has been a mediocre 500 yard WR despite him playing the most snaps in 2024 and he was on pace by a large margin to lead again in 2025. So why would he demand to be paid now? He has zero leverage. The front office would only laugh at this in embarrassment.
So is Gonzo genius.
They don't need to pay him either unless he holds out which he actually has the leverage to do so.

He’s been “good,” not great… but he’s played a lot.

Sure, they don’t need to pay anyone, players like playing for free and having no security or guaranteed money. We’ll all pretend…

Pro Football Reference is where I got the stats that proved you wrong.

And now the guy who knows he is taking an L resorts to insults. You are self-owning.

I literally wrote where he was ranked the last two years in snaps. Stop trying to win a debate on a technicality, that’s dumb. He led the Patriots in snaps if he was top two, they start two WR’s.

Boutte is a #3 or 4 WR at best. Whether AJ Brown has X amount of years is irrelevant.

Boutte has never matched Doubs production, again… you struggle with the definition of “production.”

What Boutte would take would already be resolved if it were nothing. They’re about to make Gonzo the highest paid CB in the NFL, then follow it up by making Drake the highest paid player in the entire NFL.

Again, when you think the salary cap is imaginary, you come up with foolish ideas like this.
Boutte is under contract for this year. What he wants is irrelevant.

Boutte has matched Doubs production pretty much exactly when he has played and was healthy. You know that. I proved it to you.

Bouttes 2027 contract is to be determined in 2027.

He is under contract.
Are you saying everyone should be a free agent every year if they want to be?

They don't need to pay him either unless he holds out which he actually has the leverage to do so.
Yes, Boutte could sit out and be traded to whoever the team can send him to in the days before Game 1.

Boutte has chosen NOT to take this route.

Boutte understands that the patriots won't extend him now to a contract acceptable to him. He knew this the day Doubs was signed. He had a decision with regard to his reaction. He stated his case, probably had his agent have several meetings with the team, and then decided to play under his contract, unless the team trades him. As he has said, the NFL is a business.
