Why not 7 WR's on the opening day roster?

I have seem the suggestion that Boutte could be traded for an EDGE (Thibodeaux). I would trade Boutte for a LB - we are desperate for sideline-to-sidleine LB. What do we need more? A 7th WR or a LB to compliment Spillane? Easy Peasy. We need the off the ball LB much more than a 7th WR.

I’m on the Boutte train but trading for an LB (and throw in a pick if needed) that can cover and stuff…I’m ok with. However I will be a total douche on this board if he is traded for only a pick.

? Douglass is an NFL quality receiver. Chism hasn’t not shown anyone that.
They would like to win games so they will keep the guy who gives them a better chance to win games not the guy who’s a cool underdog story.

Granted, it's small sample size theatre, but he's not supposed to have 4/95/1, with 28 YPC on the non-TD catches, if he's a 4.7 scrub.

I feel like giving up on Boutte is gonna be similar to letting Jacobi Meyers leave. Both developed here, showed that they were solid here, and with Jacobi, has become a really good WR. I think Boutte is gonna be as good or maybe even better because he's shown he can make big plays.

He had 3 catches all season in blowouts against the jets and dolphins. Thats not a strong argument he belongs.

They did in 2024. The names to accomplish this were nauseating. Jalynn Polk, Javon Baker, KJ Osborne, Tyquan Thornton, Jalen Reagor. I think this crop is better.

It can easily be done keeping only two TE's and 4 RB's, and they can still have 3 QB's. and 9 OL. I don't think anyone is claiming Tanner Arkin.

The way a team can bring players off the practice squad for the games is too easy. A roster could/should be manipulated to this benefit by a team.

Chism would be an automatic sit and one other. The 5 dressed will get a lot of opportunities.

It's crowded, but injuries happen. I'm in.

I am fine with the risk of Chism on the PS. I am also fine with trading a WR if the realized value is fair. the rumors of Boutte for a 5th or 6th simply don't make sense to me.

I also see a WR room in 2028 that does not have Brown or Hollins. Not sure I want to rid the team of Boutte or even Pop in that case

but 31 drafted WR's also made their teams final 2025 rosters.
my point is most teams have their own developmental WR's. does that mean Chism is a lock to stay on the PS? of course not
I question his room to grow given his age. but I am fine keeping him on the PS.
I see WR holes in 2028. perhaps he sticks around with an eye on next year and beyond

I think he has to make more a mark on ST, but not as a return man. I thought the return game was a spot the Pats needed an upgrade if possible

As of now Chism is first out.

The question for me isn't Chism VS another WR. It's Chism VS a 3rd TE.

If Arkin or another TE in camp is a useable game player, then Chism or another 7th WR should go.

But to keep a 3rd TE and not dress him for games, well you might as well keep Chism if the team likes him more.

I expect that Chism and all the UDFA rookies will be waived and a couple will be on the PS. Chism doesn't really have an advantage. Showing nothing for a year does NOT help.

Look at my offseason projected 53 man depth chart… I had 7 WR’s on there. But I also said it was unlikely.

It could happen, guys like Hollins have played special teams. You’ll need some guys who play more than just WR, especially on game day. Otherwise they’ll carry another defender who can.

I can’t see it because the the lack of depth at certain positions.

I know it’s an alien concept to you that we don’t know everything, but the coaching staff knows more than any of us does.

They want to win games now and in the future. They also need to do it within a budget. The guy who best fits that might be the younger player who is still cheaper and still developing, over the veteran who has shown us what he is and has been consistent about it.

I’ve stated my opinion about it. You have yours. Won’t be the first time either one of us has been wrong, lol. Or it might be moot if they decide to keep both.
