**** I was on the highest peak rooting for losses in the '23 season post week 4 ish. Every win was a sharp pain that I knew was lessening a chance to get a top QB.

I rooted for losses in 2023 because I knew the organization was so dysfunctional that I feared they would get too many lucky wins and make Kraft think they were headed in the right direction. Ultimately it was a win they got us out of hell.

In this case you have a guy who is crowing about a prediction that a 14-3 SB team will start 1-3.

Some people assume you are an 8-8 team and can’t beat any team above .500 so we get comments like those.

I really wonder what would have happened to Mayo if he didn’t win game 17 to blow the 1st pick. I think Mayo might have kept his job.

Also, Maye was already here. So it would have cost us him.

I can also say the while Mayo and Wolf debacle was the only time I have ever rooted for losses. I did it for a house cleaning, not draft positioning.

We also can't assume Seattle picks up where they left off or that Jacksonville isn't a fluke. Pittsburgh is going to be mediocre and won't beat NE again at home like that again. The only way Buffalo wins is if Cook goes wild like he did in their last meeting.

Opening night is going be a better matchup for NE being healthier and the addition of Brown than the Super Bowl. If Campbell shows the injury was a fluke and the OL plays better, I could see NE pulling off an upset. Seattle lost their first game to SF in week 1 last season.

I stand by 2-2 being their record at worst which isn't bad considering they are playing 4 straight playoff teams including one Super Bowl team from 2025 in the first four weeks.

Seattle also had some significant losses in FA with Woolen, Walker, Mafe and Bryant all gone.

Switching my disguise to Captain Obvious, the Pats need a much, Much more productive running attack vs the 'Hags if they are to have any chance at all in the rematch. Campbell - AVT - Wilson is gonna be one of the very biggest stories of TC.

Agree. And he still has not been signed elsewhere after being released in the spring. Hoping for his sake he will get picked up by some team in need of a veteran RB, if he still wants to play. Afraid he may not get a chance if he’s questionable because of the injury. He was good so it’s a shame if it ends like this.

The problem with Maye is that it seems when he “moves on” as @dliverey44 puts it the way he moves on is more likely with his feet than throwing to the next receiver in his progression. That’s his stated antipathy to being known as “Checkdown Charlie”. He seems to think it’s a mark of QB excellence to connect with the first read and a QB failing to have to check down. Plus being a heroic runner is a hallmark of an outstanding QB. Put those two together and he’s leaving an important part of the QB craft on the table. Brady was known to be great at finding the open receiver. Drake needs to value that more highly than he apparently does. Completing a challenging throw to his first read when another receiver is wide open but lower in the progression really isn’t good QB play. Taking the easiest completion available is always a good productive choice even if it’s not the first read.

Progressions have timing. You can’t pass up an open progression to look around a see if a lower one is more open. That leads to indecision and sacks. You can’t come back to an early progression because you lost the window. Trying to check all 5 progressions creates a statue in the pocket.

Further, progressions are not random. Plays are designed to attack coverage and use routes that complement and support each other. The first progression is both the most likely to be open based upon the route design and the goal of the play. You are 100% wrong about Brady. He didn’t sit around perusing routes to find who is open, he quickly moved through his progressions and threw to first one that was open.
Maye completed 72% of his passes last year. Your plan is that he should have passed on those completions to open receivers, who were the priority routes that he completed the pass to, hoping maybe a lesser route would be more open.
Your post lacks any insight into how a QB operates.
