Interesting bit from Andrew Callahan. He points out that Hunter Henry heads into this season (the final year of his contract) with no guaranteed money left on his deal.

Vrabel was asked about Henry's future on Friday during his press conference:

On Hunter Henry, and if he’s someone he’d like to see the team extend:

“Yeah, I love being around Hunter. I mean, I talked about his consistency and his production. And, again, we’re not going to go down the road of talking about contracts. The other guys that you mentioned. So we’re not going to start there, but the more that I can be around Hunter Henry, the better, because he’s been a great football player. He’s a great leader for us, a very consistent player.”

This one sort of flew under the radar, but with Henry now 31 (he'll be 32 in December), it will obviously be something to watch.

He can play it out. And realize that his next contract will be based on the potential for future production at 32 and beyond.

I would be shocked if he's even approached for a contract extension during the season.

Henry has been a great asset in NE.

Very dependable and productive. He played approximately 80% of the offensive snaps last season.

I wouldn't be in a rush to extend him. Solid, reliable player but at an age where fall off could happen anytime really. You delay decisions on guys like that to give yourself one more year of data to look at before you decide on a number.

If reasonable $, I'd like to see him back.
Yup.
Even if Raridon turns into a stud this year, you need TE's who can catch.
I can see the reasons not to extend him, and perhaps waiting is the best play, but definitely not opposed to a short extension at a reasonable number.

Has been great for us, but would love to replace him with TJ Hockenson in 2027. Hockenson, Raridon, and a returning Hill wpuld be an awesome group.

I think people will be surprised how much he will demand. If he has another good year. Someone will pay him over 10M/yer for sure in real money. That is the market right now. I would expect something like a 2 year 22M dollar deal with 15M GTD. Something like 10M year 1... 12M year 2... still being on the hook for 5M. Something like that would not surprise me.

Honestly is he has a good year... this may be a low ball offer. 11 guys are getting paid 12M or more a year on average. Some of them are older, some of those deals are new. This is no comp for Henry exactly. But I'd like for him to finish here with us. This year he will be a Patriot longer than he was a Charger. I think that is cool, He may take a small discount to stay... but anyone thinking he signs for less than 10+ in real money unless he falls off a cliff this year is kidding themselves i think.

If someone's paying Hunter Henry 10 million a year at age 32, I wish him the best.

It sounds like a lot.. but remember the cap continues to go up... and the market is the market. If there is no decline, given these days many players are playing better longer into their careers. It isn't like this is some crazy offer. Contracts we complain about years ago or call over pays in a few years often look like deals.

I could also see a more structured 3 year deal worth 34M with 19 GTD... Would actually not be a crazy offer in this market. Even for a guy hitting the market at age 32. TE is a position which can age a lot better than WR. And if they were to make that deal people would freak out... but at the same time you would see other deals paying people 13M/year in real money or 14/yr in real money... the year after that it be 14/yr and 15/yr in real money. For younger but less productive players.

All fans always say the same thing when it comes to cap. It is common across the community. I have done it a lot to in the past. It is because the goal post are being moved year to year, it is hard to keep up with what feels reasonable when only 2 years ago something seemed completely out of hand.

If you disagree... give me what you think he is worth if he has another year in line with his last few... throw out a contract. And look at this page.

And consider next year you will be seeing a lot more 13M and 14M/yr contracts. The year after you will see 15M/year become common.

I think that the Pats may wait to see how they feel about Raridon. Especially with Hill out for the season.

I would be shocked, like clutch my chest fall down if he got an offer anywhere close to that.

I would love to see people post what offers they think he will get... I am the only one who posted some ideas and it was kind of dismissed... but put it out there... then we will compare it to the market and see. Again this assumes no injury and his production stays consistent.

I didn't dismiss it, just said I would be shocked if he got that kind of offer.
If I had to guess, and I am guessing, maybe 2 yrs $12-13M-ish with an out after year 1, maybe $7-8 guaranteed.

Dawson Knox just signed for 8.

Currently, Henry is the 18th highest paid TE in the NFL.

NE is basically paying him 10 Mil per season. That seems fair and about right. IMO. he has been a good soldier with no griping about more money or drama that I have heard of. HH Works well with Maye and does his job. Seems to be still playing at a high level at his age. Bumping his pay up to 11 Mil per wouldn't break the bank and its just good business to treat a company man right.
