Celtics 2026-2027 Discussion

Queta might improve this year if he can stay out of foul trouble. That might actually be true if only because the refs might call him less tightly with Brown gone. The refs sucked last year and really showed some major bias against the Celtics, which Brown commented on several times.

I'd love to see the refs call the Celtics the same way they call the other team for a season.

LeBron to the Sixers. Interesting.
Kindof affirms Steven's assessment of next season and what appears to be a plan to peak when other teams are weak in a few years.

Miami and the Sixers in the Eastern Division are stocking up to beat the Knicks. Rather than abandon the luxury cap reset he's investing in the future now, with those three teams looking at their own luxury tax salary dumps when the Celtics should be peaking.

We might be having a different conversation if we'd gotten Giannis, though even there I don't think they'd abandon the luxury cap savings as they'd be fitting him in to Brown's salary slot.

Maybe Queta develops into a complete center with another year starting (Robinson will spell him for D) - but we couldn't compete with the Sixers as is last year so I don't see us being better than them, Miami, or the Knicks in the playoffs.

You've got to stagger your championship rosters the way the CBA is set up - Stevens knows this, and still needs to make the right picks and have good health, but I'd rather see another banner later than mortgage the future to compete against those lineups now.

We might want to create a 2027-2028 season discusion too because that's the earlierst

Last I heard they still play the game with only one ball so it should be interesting with so many Alphas.
For a guy who constantly runs his mouth in interviews that championships don’t matter because it’s a team sport when trying to proclaim himself as the greatest, he sure seems to pick engineered teams that offer the least resistance to winning one. Or I should say that is the initial perception. Just wait until they start struggling and everyone else on the team is blamed. This is simply the LeBron cycle.

And we know how well Brown takes playing second fiddle, let alone 4th on the Sixers with Embid, Maxey and now James ahead of him.

It wouldn't be the first time a great team on paper didn't live up to expectations in real life.

Stevens clearly puts a lot of stock on team chemistry - it will be interesting to see how this works out for Philly.

Embiid could be done for his career anytime. James is a shell of himself. Maxey and Brown are a good duo.

I like what Brad is doing. The Celtics may not be a top contender this year, but they are focused on the long game. But also if you look at the trend, they went from champions to out in the second round to out in the first round. So it’s not like he was breaking up a championship squad this off-season. I see that Walsh got a three-year extension. So they are doubling down on their homegrown talent. A lot of of these teams in the east are not much better than the Celtics but have given up a lot of future draft compensation to get there.

Honestly, I feel like the biggest loser. This off-season is Miami and not the Celtics. I don’t see how Miami is even a top four team in the east. They have like nothing to fall back on either. The Sixers got LeBron on a cheap deal and got rid of Paul Jorge so even though I questioned the team chemistry, you can’t really argue with shaking things up and taking a solid gamble.
