PATRIOTS NEWS 2026 Training Camp - Week 1

Breaking New England Patriots Team News
crazy Boutte stat
he had 33 rcpts last season (on 46 targets-70%) and every one of his 33 rcpts was either a first down or touchdown
That is not true. He had 33 receptions 6 TDs and 27 1st downs but TDs count as first downs so the 6 are included in the 27.

If anyone wants to read some good comedy, I read the new Athlon magazine today. First, Athlon was always the red headed step child to the Sporting News and Lindy’s. The analysis on each team was pretty bad. Now to the comedy:

For absolutely no reason, they picked the Bills to not only get the #1 seed in the AFC, but win the Super Bowl over the Seahawks. It was déjà vu from last season. They have the Pats losing at Buffalo in the divisional round.

I’m bookmarking this post for when the Bills come up short again in the divisional round if they are lucky.

Signing those two Nobodies does Absolutely Nothing to address those areas of thin-ness.

When you're thin at a position this late the best strategy is to create a revolving door of players hoping someone sticks/fits your system enough to be some help later.

i prefer to keep the guys who deserve a new deal... Boutte is a good player who has earned a new deal... the meyers/jjss nightmare still lives in my memory... ymmv on tha
We all get it you have a complete crush on the guy. He is a pretty good wr who did well for us. He is good enough that for the right price I would keep him.

That being said, signing players to huge salaries just because you drafted them only makes sense if they are better than the alternatives. Signing mediocre player just because you drafted them makes your team worse. This isn't tough to understand.

I would love to know what Boutte is looking for in a new contract
I would love to know what a trade package would look like for Boutte. If it is a 5th, 6th or 7th, or a player.
for on the field preferences, I much prefer Boutte on the field over both Pop and Chism, as well as Hollins.
kind of hard to have a definitive opinion on who to keep without better understanding the flip side of moving off some of these players

Sorry. I don't consider that "obviously liking a player."

They were fine with him leaving if another team claimed him for most of the season.

They're willing to give him another shot and it could be for multiple reasons. He might need more work on technique before he can be fully evaluated, or they could have wanted a culture last year of we promote from within to get the end of the roster players work harder or Drake might just personally liked him around, it was late in the season, so they swapped Saunders for him.

We can hope, but we have no idea how they feel about him as a player.
If they didn’t like the player he’d. be gone within a week or a month… not part of the extended team for the entire season.

Right because it's numbers, not real depth.
Just because you have no clue who a prospect is doesn’t mean they’re no good.
It just means you have limited knowledge.

It's a story as old as dirt... Sign another "mediocre" player to shave a mill off the cap... When the same goal can be achieved by a properly structured contract... Keeping the guy you know works well in your system is worth a little bit extra ... I am all in on that... Ymmv on that point...

I haven't seen nearly enough evidence that Doubs in his first year with the OC and QB, is better than a motivated, 4th year Boutte repeating a system and OC for the first time in his career. Let the guys fight it out, and let Boutte know that if he wins the comp and has a good year, he'll get paid appropriately.

You always change the meaning of what people say.

I never said they didn't like the player.

I said there is no evidence they obviously like him.

The only thing obvious is they thought he was one of 90 for a second look.

I don’t know how I missed the Brock Lampe release.

I don’t get it, he was the next John Riggins or Mike Alstott… odd?

Dippre sticking around for 17 regular season games and the playoffs is proof they liked him.

He was an UDFA, they had no financial incentive to keep him. There’s no other reason.

I can see you back in 2016 telling us we shouldn’t give this Jonathan Jones guy a chance because he wasn’t drafted and you don’t know who he is.

we call that "you were Wozzied"
That’s what you call it when you’re proven wrong and are trying to cope.

Didn’t you call Brock Lampe a lock at some point?

I did last summer, when he was the only FB in camp, playing with the 1's, and pancaking people.
then he got hurt and missed the season

I never said any player doesn't have a chance while they are on the roster at the beginning of the first year.

Except I said Sidney Sow had no chance at tackle, which two years later you insisted you were right.

Pancaking people

You have a way of creating fantastical fictional scenarios to fit your preconceived notions.

"As Van Vooren and Wilson come into the Patriots’ fold, Lampe exits it. For the second-year fullback, the writing unfortunately was on the wall even after what was a relatively promising start to his NFL career last spring.
As the lone fullback on the roster at the time, Lampe saw some reps with the first-team offense during his rookie offseason and the early stages of 2025’s training camp. At that point, he seemed like a possible roster candidate despite having previously gone unselected in the draft. However, the season-ending injury he suffered in late July put an end to any such projections. When the team subsequently signed veteran Reggie Gilliam to a three-year contract in this year’s free agency, his road to the 53-man roster effectively became blocked."
