DRAFT Welcome to New England - Illinois Edge Gabe Jacas! (2nd round, #55)

I’m mildly concerned with the non disclosed injury
Some guys are physically broken coming out of college. I see no solid evidence that’s the case here but is a concern.
Need to get the guy on the field and see what he’s got.
Ive had a thought that if jacass was so highly rated why wasn't he drafted earlier? Did other teams do more research and discover something that the pats did not that put them off?

Probably because teams draft boards/needs vary vastly from what draft “experts” think.
He was picked in the area he was projected to go.

Except that he was drafted about where he was suppose to be
OK, all say this, i never heard of him before draft day even when i checked out numerous defensive draft picks, after he was drafted there was nothing but glowing reviews about his ability. I'm not trying to start a discussion, but that always seemed odd.

Really?

There was tons of draft pub on him in the months leading up to the draft.

Jacas was expected to be drafted in the mid-second round. Likely, he would have been higher with no injuries.

Why does it matter that you didn't hear of him? There was a lot of discussion of him on the draft board when 2nd round EDGE rushers were discussed. And, certainly, most meidots had him as a 2nd round EDGE rusher.

I read something that roughly 30% of everyone have "foreign bodies" in their knees that cause no issue or aren't found unless with thorough imaging.

One of the things that I learned with my L4/L5 issues is that many of these facilities haven't upgraded their systems. About a year after my first surgery, I switched surgeons because the one wasn't listening to me. The new surgeon sent me for a new MRI. When he got it, he said, "This imagine is s**t. I can't see anything". Then he sent me to a different facility for a new MRI. The new MRI was starkly better. He could see the outline of the lump of scar tissue that had formed and has caused the original surgery to fail.

He said it was like looking at an old style black and white compared to a 4K UHD video.

Do I want Jacas signed? Yes. Do I understand the Patriots reluctance to guarantee all of Jacas contract for injury. Yes. But I also understand that Jacas only missed ONE game over his 4 year college career.

A compromise would be for the Pats to guarantee the first year and put clauses in for the next 3 that would be guaranteed if he played x number of games or x number of snaps..

Exactly. Jacas was predicted to go anywhere from the Bottom of the 1st to the middle of the 2nd. to the top of the 3rd (per Dane Brugler).

Don't succumb to these mother****ers, Eliot. Show a ****ing spine. For once.
We're seeing a pattern here. His agent is a pain in the ass and the Pats need to use his track record of bad players against him.

HUH?? How had you never heard of Jacas before draft day??

Jacas was mentioned numerous times in connection with the Patriots. He had a 30 visit with the Pats. The Draft page on here talked about him regularly. I had started talking about Jacas during the Combine. Others on here talked about him as well.

KCSven pointed out numerous publications and where Jacas was ranked.

Dane Brugler's "The Beast" draft report had Jacas as the 49th ranked overall player despite being the 11th ranked DE (which is low imho).

So, help everyone out here. What sources were you using to "check out numerous defensive draft picks"?

I'm all for signing Clowney. As I've said all offseason, I don't expect Landry to provide anything but overhyped "leadership".
Jones & Ponder are our only hope at DE, and that's not saying much. Jacas & Swinson are literal miracle hopes, but at this moment you just can't count on that. We need a legit FA Edge. Clowney sorta resurrected his career last year, and is still a solid rotational guy. Vrabel could be just what he needs - because with him it's never been about talent or measurables, just his "want-to".

Not based on his behavior so far. On that basis; he'd be a UDFA at best. You are what you actually do: so far, not so good. Character matters: signs to this point are not great.
He had no character concerns coming into the draft.
Contractual issues are not a “character” problem.
Are you intentionally trying to put a Felger spin on this?

1) Could well be, but ethical standards for athletes are notoriously low. That old "sports builds character" thing is now a sick joke.
2) They can be, obviously.
3) No. Can't stand the guy, so why would I emulate him?

His agent is a notorious douche.
There have been plenty of contractual disputes in the history of the NFL, including those with high character players.
Seems you’re putting Jacas in a bucket of athletes that he doesn’t belong in, because your general discord with modern athletes and your own ethics.
Pretty unfair, and unfounded.

If his agent is indeed a "douche" at what point does Jacas have to make a decision regarding his representation?
He has already missed a lot of work and opportunities to become involved in the Patriot culture, which is a lot to catch up on.
Will he waste a whole year and be branded a "malcontent"?

There is no hurry for him to sign at this point up until training camp starts. If he isn't here when training camp starts I will be worried. Up until then everyone getting worked up is silly.
Hes already behind... "The WTF Dude? Sign your contract!!!" panic (for lack of a better term) started a month ago during OTAs...

He missed the ota's, until training camp starts he hasn't missed anything else. If he misses training camp it becomes an issue. A bunch of old women *****ing on a fan site that he hasn't signed yet, so he has bad character and is damaged goods, is just a bunch of wind. Once he misses day 1 it is a different story.
