Celtics 2026-2027 Discussion

Robinson was talked about as a possibility and a fit. I’m not that surprised and am glad we got better already. But I think he’s a place holder for a bigger fish, whether it’s this year or next. Let’s hope he won’t be relied upon to play >28 minutes per game beyond this year. He also gives Embiid some troubles. Rebound monster as well.

As for Conley, it was evident we needed a reliable ball handler off the bench when we traded away Simons. It’s why Pritchard had to go back to the bench. I liked him there. Now he may be back with the starters. There’s still plenty of moves Brad will/try to make. This could be only the beginning……or not

Honestly, I like two separate paths for the Celtics

1. Jayson Tatum, surrounded by a bunch of B+ players who are all very good but not all star guys. Get depth with as many above average players as you can along with Tatum.

2. Jayson Tatum plus one superstar. I don’t like this plan as much and feel that it’s somewhat of a failing plan in today’s NBA, but if you can get the complementary play between the two just right and have actual top five guys then that could work too.

I feel like the worst place to be in the NBA is to have both of your max contracts doled out and have issues with either one or both guys really not being championship level or the way they played together not maximizing efficiency.

LeBron waited until one day after Bronny‘s contract was fully guaranteed before leaking that he isn’t coming back.

People say that LeBron deals with a lot of criticism. That’s not really true. He deals with typical fan hate and some of it is legitimate fan criticism. But from the perspective of media criticism there is basically zero. I’ve never seen the media ball wash a guy like LeBron James for over two decades. I rarely see anything negative or critical of him, even though his career is filled with extreme narcissism and a lot of failure for someone that they actually call the goat. I saw a YouTube video, but I don’t remember exactly the clip. The guy pointed out that many people at ESPN and other news outlets actually have like a clear financial stake in LeBron‘s success. More so than other athletes for some reason.

People in the gym community are 110% convinced that the league has allowed him to use HGH or some other steroids for many years given that his body does not look like other athletes and also basically every thing about his physique is a telltale sign of PED usage. They don’t single out any other athlete except LeBron. Interesting.

Well, I don’t want the Lakers to surpass us in championships, I really don’t hate them anymore like I did one week ago. LeBron is probably my least favorite superstar ever. It used to be Aaron Rodgers, but wow I think Rogers is a mega douche bag, I’ve noticed that he just doesn’t even try to hide it. Which is exactly why I hate LeBron. He tries so hard to protect his image, but he’s a jackass.

Between Mitchell Robinson and draft pick Dillon Mitchell, we have two Mitchell's that can't hit a free throw.

Hey, Andre Drummond is a free agent. We can get another big who can't hit a free throw cheap.

Wonder what the owner is thinking?

Only thing that can rationalize this trade is that the Celtics do not think they can win a championship with this team and plan to continue developing players for the next two years at which point they’ll have extra first round pick and cap space for another max contract, and our lining it up still within Tatum’s prime.

I don’t really see any other way to interpret this trade unless they’re planning to have some kind of flip here, but I doubt any other team is taking on Paul George.

That and also their urgency to trade Brown was much higher than they stated, and the trade market for Brown was as low as reported by Marc Stein. Teams do not see him as a franchise player to build around. It’s his style of play and the analytics.

What a ****ing terrible trade. I guess I can go back to ignoring the Celtics again.
I truly think they’ve torpedoed their chances at contending for at least 2-3 years. They don’t have any assets remaining to get a big star to pair with Tatum.

Hugo Gonzalez is our best trade bait lol. We also aren’t bad enough to tank. Rep hit for Brad to say the least.

There is a real scenario in the next few years that we will just have to tear it all down, trade Tatum and acquire lottery picks to start over.

Wonder what the owner is thinking?
I’m guessing he’s on board with not having to pay Brown an extension, there are a lot of people who think the owner wanted cost cutting. I sure am hoping there is still another deal coming.

Why is it that I was immediately reminded of the one and only “John Y. Brown” when I heard about the Jaylen Brown trade?

Owner talking to Henry on how to be cheap Anyway, this will lose you your job and Brad should lose his job if he can’t right the ship. I’m assuming he has cap room to work with and Brown will be off the books? Thought we were off to good start and then this happens making Philly a powerful favorite. Red Auerback would be laughing at this. Can you imagine him trading McHale or Reggie Lewis to Philly? I think not. I just don’t get it.

Nothing to do with being cheap, they’re going to spend to the ceiling of the 1st apron. They’re taking on George’s bloated contract. This is a strategic move, even if you don’t like it (does anyone like it?)

rim defender

Yeah but if he's in there during crunch time in a close game, you can bet the other team will just foul him nonstop as it's a sure fire way to limit the Celtics to 1 pt per possession. It's going to require some interesting game management to make sure he's not a liability down the stretch.

As others pointed out Queta is ok from the foul line but we know when he's in there he's not the inside scorer or rim defender we need him to be (though he does - Queta obviously can grab some rebounds but even at 7 feet he's not the rim defender Robinson is, but I keep hoping that Queta can turn the corner and become more of a complete player.

I guess this is an upgrade but continuing a Center by Committee with each having their strong and weak points isn't ideal, but still good to have someone for situational basketball.

Robinson can score and dunk from inside but he's not what I really think they need - which is someone who can defend but not be an offensive liability when fouled.

If they had someone they could fully count on to give them 2 when they have a lead and not give up 2 from the foul line, that would be better, so this is a slight head scratcher to me.

Not sure if this takes us out of the Durden trade for Brown - but I think I'd rather have Brown than Durden so won't complain if it doesn't happen.

I also don’t like the fact that our franchise looks dumb as **** to the rest of the league. Pride’s a little hurt.
