The new Russini video definitely takes pressure off of Vrabel. The story becomes less about them as an affair and what information he was feeding her and more about her abusing her role as a journalist.

Personally, I don't care. She is definitely unprofessional, but she isn't the first journalist to be unprofessional. Many are very successful despite being unprofessional.

And I don't care about whatever information Vrabel was feeding Russini and how that information was used. Sports people and politicians have been exploiting personal relationships with the media for decade. The latter for centuries.

No psychologist but I get the feeling her rapid talking in this video and the one about her husband is a good tell that she'll say whatever thought she has before thinking about what she's saying. No filter at all.

I'm sure Portnoy will bring her on board at some point.

So it turns out that anecdote was a made up lie.

Damage control. Saying it was a lie is less damaging than saying it's a true story.

I don't know what's the truth here, but I know you can't take her word for it.

We don't have to take anyone's word, the post above shows the officer's body cam video. It shows that the original story was a lie because she did not FaceTime a NFL coach, she just name dropped like hell. Guess what, it worked, the officer "cut her a break". And guess what, officers cut breaks all the time. It's all a huge crap shoot as to whether or not you get written up or not.

Then there's another crap shoot based on what happens if/when you go to court to contest the ticket. I learned early on that you really do need to fight any tickets you get because I got a ticket I could totally have fought and chose not to, and later on it almost cost me my license due to accumulation of points. Yes, I did drive pretty aggressively back in the old days, but still, it's almost always worth the time to try to get a reduction in either fine or points, or even get off totally.

The last ticket I got was in the late 2010s in Connecticut. I took a day off from work to fight the ticket. The prosecutor told me that they had a procedure where if I made a donation to one of their chosen charities and kept a clean sheet for a few months then the ticket would go away. There was a minimum donation but guess what, it was cheaper than paying the fine, and of course, no points on the license once the ticket goes away. It's not even rich man's justice since it was cheaper to make that donation than to pay the fine.

The day I was given that ticket I could tell by the cop's demeanor that he was not in any mood to be giving out any breaks. I just told him why I thought I shouldn't have been given a ticket to set things up for my eventual protest in court, but as above, that turned out to not be necessary. And guess what, just like Diana, there was little doubt that I was in the wrong. So, Mr Surly CT State Cop, you may have won the battle, but you lost the war.

Note that fighting tickets in MA is now much harder than it once was. Now you end up seeing a magistrate and a random cop reads out the police report. There's no way to question the cop who wrote it any more, unless you really insist on a court date, and the court does not take lightly to wasting their time so you better have a good argument. Yet, I did talk the magistrate into a lesser offense with a lower fine and lower points, so it's still worth trying.

I gotta say, I see a lot fewer cops doing road enforcement these days. I think everyone involved realizes it's just too random to be much of a deterrent, so it ends up being a big waste of time.

IMO the pressure on Vrabel already was zero. He never had to confess publicly, he got away with talking in vague terms about decision making. His marriage didn't end, and neither did hers. He got the support of his players in general and from QB1 in particular. His employers also supported him.

Basically, he dodged the bullet. Hopefully he learned something from all this.

I can still see why/how there still could be more to come, but the more time that passes the less likely that is to happen. The pressure on him is zero since he can now easily swat away any attempt to talk about it with "we're on to Cincinnati", and that will be the case till if/when something new and substantial breaks.

I'm not sure if it would have nuked her career, though I can imagine it would have forced her or NYT to go into damage control mode. Trying to use insider info to try to impress a cop enough to get out of a ticket isn't quite in the same league as (allegedly) sleeping with a NFL head coach and (presumably) gaining inside info in the process.

All of these NFL "insiders" are performers. They happily carry water for the agents in order to gain access. I'm sure their opinions in private are often quite different than what they say in front of the cameras or in print media.

And, BTW, she's right, McCarthy sucks.

I say that because coaches and/or players won't want to talk to her after that trust is broken. The text she showed the officer was something related to what she said about McCarthy. That's extremely unprofessional.

Very interesting. It's still interesting to me how little attention was brought on the fact that the cop clearly had the goods on her but still let her off. Even stranger given he knew he was wearing a body camera. I guess the whole world realizes that getting pulled over is just the start of a bargaining process.
