I had a hard time watching it from the beginning seeing what it does to people. It's only been a year and he's already trapped in his own body. He goes from being one of the fastest players in NFL history to not being able to move or speak. That's horrifying.

Not to mention his family watching him go through this.

I see your point. The key difference is we know how the misfolding spreads in kuru infections; there doesn't seem to be a similar trigger in ALS in the vast majority of patients.

Looking more into this, found insightful research reporting high correlations between ALS and folks with significant head/spinal trauma. Not a cause but a trigger. Compared to general male population, those who experience head/spinal trauma often are 4 times more likely to get ALS.

It's brutal to see. I can't believe they haven't found a cure or at least a treatment to massively slow it down. It really is unfair.

Absolutely horrible. It's so horrible that I didn't originally want to come here and read about it.

hopefully they will be able to pinpoint the genetic markers for als ... either wipe it out or slow/moderate the progression of the disease.
