Our Defense is NOT Loaded; our BACKUPS are weak.

Can’t wait for the games to start

Admittingly, I am not as embedded in following names and talent as I used to be - even with my favorite team -, but my answer to this question comes down to: hard for me to tell; I'm more familiar with the names on the front-7 but to determine if they are WEAK or not is a bit difficult. Not a lot of real assessment. Just my take.

he got $7.5m with $4m guaranteed (Muma got $1m with 0 guaranteed)
the cap is crap only applies if poor roster management happens.
not signing Gibbens $7.5m to be a back up is is smart (they should have signed him to 2 years in 2025)
Nonsense.

The team didn't think that Gibbens was worth more he got in 2025. Or perhaps Gibbens wanted a one-year deal/

In any case, Gibbens was a patriots success in 2025. He was signed for chump change and was OK when called upon (obviously a large downgrade from Spiilane, but OK just the same). Gibbens was a good value ion 2025.

1) Gibbens wasn't worth signing at $4M, certainly not at $7.5M. He was well worth his 2025 money.

2) Vrabel will pay his 2 backup a total of less than $3M (the team gets a veteran cap break on Britt.

3) Muma (as Gibbens last year) is worth his compensation as a backup, replacing Gobbens.

4) Britt is worth his very small compensation as a replacement for Mapu as a ILB/STer.

no we are not
given the salary he secured, letting him walk was a good decision
the discussion is currently....was he adequately replaced?
OK

How much would you spend for an upgrade on our ILB backups?

Vrabel has decided that spending under $3M for 2 ILB backups is good value, plus an inexpensive draft choice and UDFA's competing for a possible 5th ILB spot.

other than Britt, Muma and Ob are far from roster locks

I think if you look at some positional groups, especially on defense, you can make some safe assumptions.

Def backfield: Gonzo/Davis/Marcus/Byard/Woodson are arguably the best group in the league. There is some vet depth on board as well making this group very strong.

IDL: Barmore/Milton/Durden/Farmer/Gregory/Taylor is very deep. I like the less is more approach here. Less snaps means fresher, healthier players and better production.

DE/Edge: If Landry and Jacas are healthy, and Ponder develops, this group should be better than last years group.

What vet depth?

I think Brown and Pettus will both be on the team because of their ST abilities, but both had seasons playing 30-ish% of their teams defensive snaps.
I also believe Woods, Vildor and Dial are in the mix for the 4th/5th CB spots

How can that surpass the everlasting Wozzie and Karp grudge match?
there is no grudge match
Woozy has to argue with every word out of every posters mouth.
he makes things up, changes the topic when it is clearly shown he was wrong, and out right lies.
all that said, I like his posts. he makes good observations. lengthens discussions. offers some opinions that make others check twice.
he needs to stay away from any comments financial. his point of reference is dated. his stubbornness about Bill's final few seasons and downfall are agenda driven.
otherwise, I bear no grudge
if anything, Wozzy dislikes me, since I bested him on a bet years ago, that he changed the parameters (of course) and lied about the outcome (expected).

Has Prunty been cut already?

You’re the reason gene pools need a lifeguard.

Woods and Dial haven’t impressed to date, they’ve got a lot of competition now from Vildor and 3 talented rookies.

I think the team already knows they have to get better after the big three.
