DRAFT Welcome to New England - Illinois Edge Gabe Jacas! (2nd round, #55)

since they got first round players guaranteed dollars, there is more of a push to get second rounders better deals, including guaranteed money... thats the thought process afaik

jacas should be here, practicing... will cost him this year...

That's just lazy.

Every other 2nd round pick has signed.

That said, there is probably an issue over guarantees, but it is because picks 53 and 54 got around 80-90% guaranteed, and pick 56 signed for just over 50% guaranteed. For Pick 57 the guaranteed has not been specified. For picks t7+ the guaranteed was more around 70%.

Guys like Daniels making blanket comparisons to 2025 are just being lazy. They should do their homework.

FWIW, here are the numbers OverTheCap and Spotrac are reporting:

  • CJ Allen [2 earlier] 4 yr/$9.13M, $7.64M guaranteed
  • Eli Stowers [1 earlier] 4 yr/$8.89M, $7.28M guaranteed
  • Nate Boerkircher [1 after] 4 yr/$8.54M, $6.74M guaranteed
  • [Logan Jones, 2 after, no total guaranteed amount available]
  • Emmanuel McNeil-Warren [3 after] 4 yr/$8.35M, $6.53M guaranteed

Both sites are reporting Boerkircher's 2026-2028 salaries are fully guaranteed.

That's good.

Spotrac previously reported $3.82M guaranteed for Boerkircher, which was an.outlier. Apparently they were in error, it has now been corrected.

It is a holdout due to his agency WIN Sports Group wanting to reset the market for guarantees for a player drafted at his position. They do not care what percentage guarantees the player before and after him got. If they did, he would be signed and be in camp. His group is well known for their willingness to hold players out until they receive what they want. Eli Stowers, the player drafted before him, got 81.83% of his salary guaranteed. The player drafted behind him, Nate Boerkirhcer, is getting 78.9% guaranteed. Pats are probably offering around 80% and the agents are looking for 90% plus. Situation sucks and it will not help the player or the team. When you are picked in the last 30% of the round and you are 1 of 32 not signed, unless you are dealing with the Bengals, you and your agents are being unreasonable.

Would sure love to have had Jacas at 63, Kyle Louis at 131, and VJ Payne or Jordan Van den Berg at 202.
Sure, we can wish that Vrabel could have gotten Jacas at 63. If we don't trust Vrabel's judgement, so be it.

As far picking other players in hindsight, I would have picked Crownover at 171 and Vanderberg (or choice of Payne) at 202.

As far as Jacas at 55, I think that most of us were happy to see Vrabel make sure that he got his man, even if it cost #131.

At the time, did you want us to pass on the trade for Jacas and take the best EDGE player available at 63, who may or may not have been Jacas?

I had DDS at 63 as my target. I would have been happy with any of DDS, Jacas, or Keyron Crawford.

IVWT, I was fine with the trade up given how high the Pats seemed to be in him. A little less enthusiastic to have traded up for an apparently injured holdout, but still IVWT for now.

The way Vrabel try to danced around Jacas question today doesn’t sound great

So telling the truth is " dancing around the question,?" He had a medical procedure, isn't under contract, and isn't there. What else is there to say?

I don't know that I'd term it dancing, but there did seem to be something odd about how he answered the questions. Itt might just be that he's pissed, but the way he would only say 'had a procedure' and 'isn't under contract', over and over with no variation, did strike me as funny.

Dosen't having a "procedure" reduce his contract value especially for guaranteed money? Other 2nd rounders don't have this issue.
Then again the agent is the one holding up on setting the value.

Of course he’s pissed.

He’s got a difficult contract negotiation with a rookie who might be damaged goods but wants beaucoup guaranteed money just to sign, and a front office that doesn’t want to sign up for a big guarantee until they know the player is healthy and will return to previous level of play. So he’s caught in a waiting pattern until the player can pass a physical, with the urgency of preparing for an early season opener pressuring him no matter how quickly or slowly that player heals.

And he’s got media and fans wanting to litigate the trade up for that draft choice and the terms of the contract, and they’re all asking questions trying for the “GOTCHA!” rage bait headline or post.

The less he says the better. Don’t feed the trolls.

Exactly, while fans are flaming the team for not having him signed yet.
