RUMOR: Alex Highsmith?

I think that should do it as well. And i think it makes alot of sense from our side especially if boutte is asking to be dealt.

Im not sure if im interpreting the rules correct but i think wed be on the hook for 14.5m and 15.5m cap hits (someone please correct this if im wrong). I think thats very fair for 2 years of highsmith.

I have soft spot for Boutte... Pop Douglas and our Fourth.

Thibodeaux or Highsmith IN
Boutte OUT
================
Sure, there are details to be negotiated.

Who is our 2026 defender? This is what cap money is for.

And no, this will NOT affect the extension of Gonzalez or Maye.

So who is better thibodeaux or highsmith?

Normally id prefer that as well, ive mostly been on team Boutte and i don’t see pop progressing as much for us in year 4. But if Boutte wants out probably the best thing for all parties is to move him.

If they get Highsmith than Landry is gone next year for sure even if he has a great year. Older with injury issues with a bigger cap hit.

But for this year the Pats would have a hell of a pass rush. If all it cost is Boutte and a 5th I'm okay with the move and would wish Boutte the best. If they are doing this move even after Jacas it does make you wonder though... Either they see it as too valuable to pass up or they have huge concerns about Landry. I hope it is more the first than the second.

Not usually what I look for in player evaluations but it couldn't hurt.
I'm the only one that's into that? Typo that was fixed.

You Never have enough pass Rushers...the Giants seems like they have 100 *jealous*. Also Rookies are no guarantee: let's hope Jacas develops the more the merrier.

This would b fantastic. A unit that is C- goes to B and gives the opportunity for Jacas to develop at a normal pace.
I'm not that keen on sending $20 of our cap space to the Steelers, though. I guess the price must be paid.

So it's Highsmith or the Thibbs...torn.

don't know

Both are major additions.

I prefer 2 years of Highsmith at $15M per year. Basically, we could stop worrying about Landry's health as much. We would be grateful for anything we can get out of Landry, instead of depending on him.

Jones, Jacas, Highsmith, Landry, Ponder
Jones, Jacas, Landry, Ponder, Swinson

We are considerably stronger with Highsmith.

any trade return for Boutte will be predicted on a new team being able to agree to a contract with Boutte, or money coming off the teams cap onto the Pats cap.
if there is discussion with the Steelers or Giants, a pause will be can either sign/extend Boutte. Boutte for 1 year is worth less than Boutte for 3 years

What about just signing aj epenesa?

Any speculation on this stems from them having just signed his backup for $25M/year as an extension off his rookie deal. Any team that trades for Highsmith would be acquiring him on a 2 years, $30M deal ($14.5M this year, $15.5M next year cash and cap for both, none guaranteed). Have to think he's going to want a new deal. But he's a super solid player at a premium position we aren't great at.

Landry was super solid before the knee injury last year but we don't know what recovery will look like and even at his best he still kind of struggles to win one on one. DJones is a good player but can also contribute inside too so more pass rushers frees him up to do that. Jacas is a rookie so always ideal to ease him in. And then guys like Ponder/Swinson have potential but neither have really proven much. So adding Highsmith to the top of the depth chart here would really allow everyone else to slot in to proper roles IMO.

What about just signing aj epenesa?
Not that sack totals are everything, but they each have 6 seasons in the league and Highsmith has outpaced Epenesa every single one of them. Cumulatively, he's got almost double the career total at 45 to 24, and that's with one less game played for Highsmith over those 6 years. Epenesa has never played more than 55% of the snaps on defense. Outside his rookie season, Highsmith has never played less than 72%. If you just look at "full" seasons, Epenesa is always about 50% of snaps while Higshmith is at about 80%. There's a reason for that. Highsmith is just better. Starting caliber player to Epenesa just being a rotational guy.

Hmmmmmm interesting the last time we Got a former Steeler LB we did alright didn't we Mike Vrabel. I like it: we need a Pass Rusher.
Last time we got an ex-Steeler it was Juju Smith-Schuster. I am surprised you like Juju
