Greatest Patriots for their jersey numbers

Pape,
I gotta say I disagree with this.
Colclough was a good player but compared to Russ "All World" Francis and Randy Moss, (the best WR I ever saw) that is pushing it.

Jmt57 and Sb1 thanks for the thread. Brought back some great memories.
disagree away, it's all good. That's what these lists are for. The reason I considered Jimmy C is he was sneaky productive on some pretty bad teams for the Boston Patriots. Iirc, he's still top ten in receiving yards in franchise history... I put moss 1 on my list just because of his all world talent, but he was here only for a few years before things fell apart... It's hard to discount a decades worth of service when you are just looking at best by jersey number...

make a list Steve, would be a cool thing to see.. can copy/paste my list, sb1's or jmt's as a jumping off point... if you do it, you will start to realize all the different thinks that start creeping into the noggin when you really start thinking about the project as a whole...

27 Blast from the past: Victor Green.

He was good in run support with the Jets until he got here in 02 not sure why he was utilized in a safety heavy scheme that left them very vulnerable to good rushing attacks.

Also another 27 blast from the past Terrell Buckley. Nice vet depth pickup by Bill which helped win Super Bowl 36

If Tebow is a blast from the past I guess we can count 15 Reggie Wayne

good lists... excellent depth

both you and @sb1 took harold jackson at 29, like i did... little bit surprised blount hasn't gotten a nod in that spot from anyone yet... can see godchaux over agnew at 92... Ed Weisacosky over lonie paxton at 66... simply because big ed was a notorious jete hater, lol...

gotta say i love this pick... didn't have the brass balls to make it myself...
By means of his name alone, Harold Jackson could have been a pop/rock star.

And Chuck Foreman had to have at least one nod in That 70's Show.

... Maybe Monty Beisel wasn't so bad after all...

Then again, the things that creep into your noggin when you're working on two hours sleep in the last 51...

(do NOT recommend it. Just lay down, go to sleep, and whatever pieces need picking up whenever you wake up will be there, and you won't turn into a vegetable who can't shut up about Pat Patriot)

Make a list APF... be cool to see your take on it

Didn’t know Perillo made a list a while back.

This was from 2020 so not surprising some players are different on his list.

Hugh Millen at #7… that’s either quite the take or we are really hurting for good players with that number.

Vataha was an interesting pick for 18. Forgot him. He’s in the conversation I think

4 – Adam Vinatieri – Maybe someday Jarrett Stidham will make this a debate. ” lol

Sometimes I got Buckley and Tebucky mixed up lol
It's probably because posters on message boards called Tebucky "T-buck" which was irritating.

Cursed. Career backup who became the Patriots' first $million quarterback ever...While the best quarterback of the 90's, local hero Doug Flutie, set rushing and passing records and won MVP's and titles in Canada for one third of that salary.

The Patriots were terrible from 1990-1992.

But at that time, amidst financial ruin and a dilapidated, crumbling stadium, and with the same roster otherwise, that very team is in the playoffs competing with everyone and the stadium is sold out every game including preseason.

If they bring Flutie back, make him the starter and hire a coach who plays him. Tuna inherits a team already close, and Fryar's not going anywhere.

There are easily over a dozen USFL castoffs who were major stars in the NFL. Flutie did his job, but the league treated him like ****.

Assuming you have a good coach who uses Flutie well... what reason would there be to fire that coach? What reason would there be to make a splash and bring in Parcells? That's the problem when you change history, you can't then assume the events that follow the event you change happen as they did initially.

Also 81 Donald Hayes!

What a weird chain of events that signing turned out to be. Solid player with the Panthers, came to NE and should have been entering his prime but did almost nothing here and then never played in the NFL again after that.

because last time i did it was smith... figured it was tonys turn
Tony was clutch for us, in a lot of big games.

But John did it here longer and was also clutch. Until the infamous (and inevitable) blocked game-winning field goal on the Monday Night We Lost John Lennon, I think John had the highest FG percentage in NFL history from 35 yards or less. I think Jack Buck & Hank Stram mentioned this right before the attempt.

Had he made the 50-yarder on Ben Dreith Day, it might have led to our first title. But it wasn't meant to be.

statistically Tony Franklin was better... not by much, but eh, it is what it is... you either make the kick or you don't...

John Smith kicked here for a decade... thats a long time, ya know? though the last two years he was limited with that bum knee... still, a decade of service on that cold concrete slab over the cheapest carpet the sullivans could find is an impressive feat in its own right...

its kinda a mix and match with those two, depending on how i am feeling...

Yup, it's assuming all at the top went the same way. Will McDonough getting Parcells the interview with Orthwein...

But Tuna definitely wanted to come here. He obviously didn't care about how bad (or good, to me) the team was. So, as opposed to instantly turning the hope and fortunes of the team 180 degrees (which he did), his hiring would have been to get them over the hump.

But you're right, it's hard to see that if Doug had managed to win a Super Bowl already (unless that coach peed his pants in some sort of Clive Rush meltdown, which would not be exactly unusual for the Patriots). I wouldn't put it past him, but the team in '90-'92 was not nearly as strong as the veteran- and playoff and Super Bowl experience-laden team of 1988.
