It's his third year in the NFL, the discussion should now be less "how is the organization gonna set Drake Maye up for success" and it becoming a more equal, as in, "how is Drake Maye and the organization gonna help this team win"

Drake had to learn 4 offenses in 4 years. This is the first time he has a chance to build on what he learned in the 1st go around. That by itself will be huge.

Basically this will be his first real second year surge. I think people are going to be very pleasantly surprised. Ideally losing that sb will place a permachip on his shoulder

I think Brady was of the mindset that, if you learn the offense, and are open, he’s gonna find you. Hell, it happened with veterans who couldn’t get it and wound up ignored. Example, Ocho Cinco. Galloway was another.

Then you look at some of the young guys, rookies for example, who did get it, and they got the ball. Gronk, Hernandez, Malcom Mitchell. Hell, Gronk & Hernandez, their 1st season, they caught 86 between them, and then the next year broke the record for a TE tandem that still stands today. Brady was always gonna hit the open man, and to be open, you have to learn the offense and know where to be.

I think it was several things. For one, they had to put in the work, to be as obsessive about honing their craft as he was about his. And more than that, they pretty much had to be on the same page as he was, from the start, which means they had to have put in the work to figure out how he saw the game. If they didn’t already have that as their starting point he wasn’t going to waste his time retraining their view of the field. All that overlaid on the notorious difficulty of figuring out the Josh McDaniels offense.

Josh needs to get Drake to reverse the order of his reads. Instead of disliking being “Checkdown Charlie” Drake should be striving yo be “Quickdraw Drake Maye” treating the quick short passing game like it’s a long handoff complementing the running game. Use that to set up the deep kill shots.

I remember there was one TC practice where the analysts were asking "Are Dobbs and Wooldridge going to throw to anyone other than Chism?" . . . because he was always getting to his spot.

After 2025 there are reels of film on Maye having success.

All that is being broken down this offseason and some DC will crack the code on how to stop 2025 Maye. Weakness in the NEP OL is a great starting point.

Weaknesses in the 2026 OL won’t be the same as they were in the 2025 OL. The 2026 OL will have at least 40% turnover, with changes at C and LG, competition and a possible second year jump at LT, better backups across the board.

Add an improved running game with better blocking at FB and TE, possibly an upgraded WR corps (with or without AJB), and a more effective screen and short passing game.

I’m expecting the 2026 offense will likely look very different from the 2025 offense. Good luck using 2025 as a blueprint to stop 2026.

What is most likely to stop the 2026 Patriots offense is themselves, poor execution, or injuries. I don’t see the first as likely, especially with these players and coaches. The second is as always a roll of the dice.

I think his shoulder was affecting him more than anyone knew. In combination with an ineffective OL, that’s a bad combination.

Even Gronk has made it pretty apparent that Brady was quick to threaten with "I will never pass to you again" - but as Gronk also shows, it was a threat and not concrete. Meaning you could earn it back.

I've seen some comments about getting drake better at check downs. I'm sure mcdaniels is working on screens and what not but you gotta build an offense to the qbs strength. Bradys strength was accuracy getting the ball out quick reading the defense so bill gave him players to fit that. Drake is a different beast. He was the best deep ball thrower with average personel. This is why I've been screaming for a true X for 2 seasons. Honestly aj brown should be the Z or the 2nd outside guy. So for 27 put the final touches on the oline to give Drake more time and then go out and get that 6'4 80 plus wingspan big dog that can go downfield set it up with a tough run game. He could put up #s never seen before seriously

No QB can do well with an OL the Pats had during the playoffs. However, where you can fault Maye is his lack of internal clock, urgency in his throws and recognition of the situation (bad OL). After the Chargers game, it was apparent the OL was going to be a massive issue going forward. But the game against Houston was alarming with how lackadaisical Maye played. The OL was breaking down after every snap, yet Maye was going through his throws as if it was a 7 on 7 drill which was the reason why he kept fumbling so much in that game. The only reason they survived that game was because Houston had injuries on the offensive side of the ball.

They were playing scared against the Broncos in the 1st half (for obvious reasons) and were lucky Stidham handed them the ball deep into Broncos territory. The last drive of the 2nd quarter was the best all game, but came away with no points.

Then came the Super Bowl where they were dead to rights after the 1st drive. It was clear what Seattle's game plan was and we all knew that OL was going to break down pretty quickly (which they did).

The blue print is out and the bullseye is on Campbell's back. The Seahawks hinted at this by putting him on the slid drill and watch Maye start freaking out. What I want to see from Maye is more urgency in his throws. His release is painfully slow and won't change speeds if a defender is barreling down at him.

Since there is only 2025 film on Maye where NE went undefeated on the road and reached the Super Bowl, that would be a great starting point to break down what Maye was good at.

We already know that pressure on Maye gives him no time to find open receivers. Somewhere last season Maye got banged up running from pressure.

while true, last year the team did not have a TE that could block much at all, and they had a rookie FB that was a converted TE.
they have properly addressed both this past offseason...

last year, the team also was forced to play two rookie OL beside each other. this offseason, they secured a pro bowl OL to put between them.

the last step to address the pressure issue, is with Maye himself. minimize/eliminate negative plays. learn to throw the ball away or give himself up rather than turn the ball over, or lose yards.

Some things of note here regarding Drake.. he saw some top 5 defensive fronts in the postseason that will undoubtedly help him this season..

Even brady who waa a seasoned veteran with rings had his struggles in the playoffs against some serious pass rusher defenses.. Denver, Ravens the 2010 jets defense for example.

Absolutely. As mentioned to @n1997y Drake having seen the defenses he faced in the postseason will significantly help him this upcoming season.. all things considered there isn't a single pass rusher that can cause the havoc alone like Will Anderson Jr. can.. and we don't see Houston this season on the schedule.. Drake should have much more time to get to his reads this season..
