What is our plan for ILB?

New thread needed, asking a more important question: What to do if Grandpa Moses goes down with injury? Who plays RT. Onwenu? Too immobile.
So why post this in a thread about LBs?

Why not just start a thread about OTs, or specifically RT?

Threads are cheap. @Ian might even give you a discount for a good topic.

Lomu. You should start that thread. Everyone already knows the answer but you seem to believe that being obtuse is the best way to have a discussion.

That's exactly what Signbabybrady was doing. He started bringing the Belichick thread into every discussion. State seems to be having mental issues, and can no longer discern the difference between linebacker and offensive tackle. But that's ok, I'm sure he will start a thread about KJ Britt's arm length later today.

Nope. I just feel that Crownover's ceiling far exceeds that of Bryant; and that Lomu's better-suited on the Left side, though cross-training in both cases is simply part of being an NFL OLman.
Bryant was my binkie. But that was last year. This year Crownover is my new binkie. And I happen to agree with you about their respective ceilings. I usually hate the idea of a player’s ceiling because it denies character and motivation and commitment and work ethic, but it does capture differences in physical capabilities and I think Crownover has an advantage there. Not as great as I’d though, according to the roster listing I just checked on ESPN they’re both 6’7” and Bryant is just 16 pounds lighter.

Crownover a little wider, Bryant is a little more
athletic and probably stronger. It’s a wash, the two provide good competition to the starters.

my only concern with Crownover, is that he is going to take time to develop, and he is going to be 25 years old Sept 12.
do they see enough potential to hang onto him on the 53 man?

I do not understand why Devin White has not signed with a team yet. He's not injured. He is 28 yo all of 2026. He's a tackle machine, has 25.5 career sacks and 24 passes defended. What is the holdup?

He was so dominant in the Buccaneers Super Bowl. It’s inexplicable.
Agreed. Not really sure what's happened to his career..I know he did sustain some injuries but the guy was a monster in Tampa bay..

Lomu still has to develop technique &his body and strength.. he's the right tackle in waiting.. I know we want to dismiss the solid play of W Campbell prior to the injury and annoint Lomu who's never played a Down in the NFL yet.. but the best case scenario is you have your OTs for the foreseeable future in place...

I don't think that's a big deal. OL are playing well through their mid 30's.

I’m hopeful that Crownover will develop surprisingly quickly. Remember that he played DE and TE in high school, and only converted to OT after he got into college. So he’s picked it up very fast so far. Also I was very impressed by his attitude and comments in his rookie intro presser, especially his answers to two questions about being coached by Vrabel and Marrone. He expressed great respect towards both of them and made it clear that he wants to be coached and to learn. I really think he could surprise some folks about how quickly he progresses and how high his ceiling turns out to be.

Age is overblown, it’s about snaps, wear and tear.

I think they are going to resolve, at least for now, their cap standing. The Gonzalez contract talks are probably on hold, they have to sign all of their rookies, and see where they stand after a Brown trade and possible Diggs return. When those things are done they will look at the remaining off the ball linebackers and guards, and finish building their depth. There are still starting guards available, and veteran off the ball linebackers they can sign. And they can always do what they did with Bradbury and pull of a trade for depth. In other words they aren't done yet, and will address depth concerns over the summer. They won't go into the season without addressing the obvious depth concerns.

The only two rookies remaining are Lomu and Jacas.
Not sure the Pats are going to look at any other guards, though I'd be interested in the Pats kicking the tires on Bitonio or Glasgow depending on what's going on with Guard depth.

The biggest thing people need to remember is that how the Pats address the concerns likely won't be how we, the fans, think they should address the concerns.

they are
and perhaps Crownover could
but he is 25 years old in Sept.
he is a 6th round pick that has 26 career college games started
he is at least a 1 year, perhaps 2 year development project. by the time he might be ready to play meaningful snaps, he could be 27 years old and looking at free agency.
is the juice worth the squeeze? I guess we find out over the next few months
