2027 Watch List

S is potentially loaded again.

My top 10 right now for the Pats, focusing on rangy and versatile types:

KJ Bolden, Georgia
Jelani McDonald, Texas
Tae Johnson, Notre Dame
Ty Benefield, LSU
Koi Perich, Oregon
Zach Lutmer, Iowa
Amare Ferrell, Indiana
Rod Moore, Michigan
Jamel Johnson, TCU
Tao Jonson, UCLA

That doesn't include more SS/box prospects like Bray Hubbard, Keon Sabb, and Marcus Neal.

S tends to be devalued. 5 went in the first 2 rounds in a very good 2026 class, 8 in the top 100 picks.

Good post.

I wish people with DB genes named Johnson and Moore would stop reproduce for a year or two.. : )

My hope is for a more defense orientated draft. I'm not ruling out BPA offensive players, but in the last two drafts we've only drafted two defensive players in the first four rounds. Time for some balance.

An alternative view point.

I think Stewart's movement skills and athleticism are extraordinary. however, he is undersized - he was listed at 237lbs I believe - and his production fell off last year from his freshman year. He's still a top 10 guy for me, but of the very top position players, he's the one more likely to fall for me. On the other hand, adding 10 lbs and putting up David Bailey like numbers and the opposite is true. The potential is absolutely there, the reality just has to catch up a bit.

Other than Jeremiah Smith, the first30 minutes is all QB discussion.

38:35: Ty Benefield
39:35: Zach Lutmer
40:35: Tae Johnson

No mention of Leonard Moore, Ellis Robinson, KJ Bolden, Jelani McDonald, Yhonzae Pierre, Will Echoles, or any LBs.

He sounds interesting but checking his stats, he had 1 catch for nine yards last year. he has 9 career catches for 78 yards. He did have good blocking grades last year though. I think Illinois might be a team to watch with us taking two players from there his year however.

I mentioned Sammy Omosigho last year when he was at Oklahoma. He wasn't a regular for them then but I'll be interested in him at UCLA. I do like Sammy Brown too.

There should be some athletic LBs available next year. Sammy Bown, Kyngstonn Viliamu-asa, Ben Roberts, Sammy Omosighbo, Whit Weeks, Arion Carter, Joe Rojas, just for a start.

2026 was a historically good LB group, with 7 going in the first 2 rounds. I'm guessing there will be good players available in the 4th round.

Boubacar Traore, EDGE, Notre Dame
6'5", 250

Moving past this season, you have to think Dre'Mont Jones and Gabe Jacas will be our starting EDGEs. Time will tell if Ponder or Swinson can show enough to be the key rotation pieces on the edge. However, a mid round EDGE could well be a pick. I really like Clev Lubin for that kind of role and I'm going to add Traore to that list.

He had 11 sacks last year although the pass rush win rate isn't up there with the best (although near identical to Yhonzae Pierre* and Kenyatta Jackson). He also grades really well as a run defender. He also had at least one sack in every game bar three.

*Just noting statistical coincidence rather than comparing the players, Traore and Pierre were almost identical in sacks too. Traore had one more on 10.

But I just like the way he plays.

The spin move v Mauigoa

And I love this clip from spring practice as evidence of his athleticism.

I think he's someone who could climb into the first when all is said and done but if he's available on day 2, he'd be a great compliment to Jacas and Jones.
