DRAFT Welcome to New England - Alabama RB Jam Miller (7th round, #245)

I like the size they’re bringing in. I like the Emmitt Smith size.

If he’s making the team maybe a 3rd down RB/FB hybrid with plus special teams

Good size, good initial burst from what I’ve read and saw (over the past two days that I’ve known he existed)

I thought the Pats would aim a pass catching RB in this draft, McDaniels offenses rely on those but I like this pick Alabama produces good RBs and although not a major but it was kind of a need on the depth chart. From the highlights is looks like a solid RB who doesn't dance around too much to find a lane and then it's about his physicality and the Line doing their job. I think he can play some meaningful snaps this season already

McDaniels offense relies on RBs who can catch out of the backfield. Both Stevenson and Henderson offer that versatility. Lan Larison, who ended camp on the IR, has that sort of versatility as well.

Neither Miller nor Montgomery were used a lot in the passing game for Alabama or UCF, respectively.

Miller was 18 of 22 for 108 yards and 3 drops. Miller had 45 pass blocking snaps in 2025.. Miller had 2 fumbles on 327 rushing snaps over his college career.

Montgomery had 53 pass blocking snaps this passed year and was targeted 23 times with 17 receptions for 182 yards, 1 Drop. Montgomery had 3 fumbles on 271 rushing snaps over his career.

Lan Larison had 131 pass blocking snaps over his college career including 59 in 2024. Larison was an every down back as a R/Sr in 2024 tallying 765 snaps. Larison had a bit more of an issue holding onto the ball with 8 fumbles on 634 rush attempts. But Larison also had 132 receptions on 174 targets (65 of 83 as a R/SR) with 8 total drops over his 5 yr career.

This battle in camp will be interesting to watch. Larison, Miller, Montgomery and Jennings will be battling for 1-2 spots

I ALWAYS HATED the "3rd" rb back then, it Was SO EZ to see Passing when they were on the field.
Gimme 2-3 guys that can do both.
Rahm had 69 catches a few years back, but some folks here think he sux..

Sorry, but he looks slow and small to me. Flails his arm when he runs and dances.
If you're not going to be explosive, you better be a big banger.

Jam Miller is a smaller back but I'm impressed that he matched Treyveon Henderson's 40 time. So he does have some explosion and potential homerun plays in his legs. Very interesting pickup in the 7th. Maybe I would have liked an Adam Randall better as an all-around RB with a north south running style and the strength to push the pile on short yardages. But Randall went to the Ravens right after we took Prunty in the 5th.

So it looks like the Patriots valued CB depth more than a RB at that pick. But considering the rather low price of acquisition, Miller could turn out to be a nice depth piece. Hopefully he shows out in training camp. A late round success is always a nice story if he can pull it off and make the 53.

He's 220 LB / 5'10" and ran a 4.42 40. Same size as Emmitt Smith but 1 inch taller. Walter Payton was smaller. Barry Sanders was smaller. His cuts are NFL level.

I agree.

But it is odd with a 4.42 sec 40 he did not have more breakaway runs.
Maybe he is slower more then others with pads on...IDK. We'll find out what's up in the next few months.
