The Celtics sat nearly their entire playoff rotation (Tatum, Brown, Hauser, Queta, Vucevic, White, Gonzalez), and Mr. 82 Payton Pritchard. Nevertheless, the bench came up big, with Scheierman, Garza, and Harper all setting career highs. They won 114-109, and at one point were up 15 on the Magic before the Magic came back to tie the game late in the fourth. I am sure Mazzulla absolutely loved this game.

As someone put it on Reddit, "YOU JUST LOST TO THE MAINE CELTICS."

Needless to say, the Magic fans are not taking it well.

Didn’t this game have serious playoff implications on the line for the Magic too? So they absolutely needed a win, and still somehow got cooked by the Celtics bench.

Ultimately not much; they needed outside help to avoid the play-in but didn’t get it.

True but they could have had that play in game at home. Now they have to travel.
Right it was something like:

Win and outside help: avoid play-in
Win: play-in at home
Lose: travel for play-in

I think most fans would expect playing the other team’s bench would mean achieving option “B” at a minimum with an outside chance at option “A”. Losing outright is pretty rough, but I guess it goes to show maybe they don’t deserve to be there after all lol

I concur the huzzah's start with Mazz and Brad.
finding and developing the proper fit, is harder than finding a star with a higher draft slot imo.
the C's staff has seemingly done it to perfection, but of course we wait and see how the playoffs unfold.

Pretty incredible season. I figured between 45-50 wins w/o JT. Not sure you can attribute the 6-11 more wins to his return but it sure didn't hurt.

Maz deserves CoY.
Adding legit NBA players/ seasons from Scheierman, Gozalez, and Queta with no real assets is absurdly good roster dev.

Regardless of implications it’s still pretty embarrassing. Almost like a pats win against a bills team a few years ago? DOH. Maybe the magics loss will turn out as good as our win did. Ha probably not!

Anybody actually watching the NBA? How is it? I wouldn't know as I haven't watched in the last couple of seasons. The league isn't what it used to be.

It meant the difference between hosting the playin and traveling to Philly for the playin.

True, but the possibility of avoiding the play-in altogether died with Toronto's win.

This game was almost a football game....lots of butts on the ground. The Celtics just out hustled the Magic and then started connecting on a decent amount of threes to take control of the game even though it was close at the end.

The Celtics management is so competent they lost Holliday, Porzingas, Horford, Kornet, plus Tatum’s Achilles and they still compete. Phenomenal stuff.

I wonder if they're secretly surprised at how well the team came together. It's like multiple 'Ewing Theories', to be honest.

"Holy sh... we won?"

I think at this point, Brad has a pretty consistent record in the draft and the team overall has a pretty consistent record of being able to develop talent.

Something I mentioned in another thread is that I’d like to see the Pats take a page put of Brad’s playbook…

Specifically he’s really done a nice job of understanding that where they pick in the draft, you won’t get well-rounded studs.

So instead, they choose specific traits and roles to fill out the roster around the stars they do have.

Walsh has become a nasty defender and any offense is bonus. Schierman is a tough matchup from 3 pt range, Queta was super athletic but raw so they had to develop him and define a role.

I think Pats could do similar. Find guys who maybe are “meh” at run defense but can rush the hell out of the QB in sub packages, TE who you’ll never ask to block but is hard to cover, Running back who will never break a long run but has an uncanny knack for picking up 3 yards when you gotta have it etc.
