*AI Clickbait* Doubs Likely Realizing Leaving GB was a Mistake

Romeo was part of a stacked WR corps in GB. He wanted to come here.. even if Diggs remained we still would have added another WR. This isn't juju like in 2023...

We've upgraded. Seattle, Houston, Denver, LAC all took Diggs away...
With Diggs gone, the Pats have not upgraded WR and theyre not better than 2025.

Woozy is high.

I know your going to ride this as long as you can but if Doubs progresses and is equivalent to Diggs in 2025…then WR room should be better because overall experience with Maye, Boutte and Williams.

I disagree because the Pats face at least 8 Super Bowl contenders in 2026. Plus, opponents will send the house to get to Maye after the Super Bowl debacle.

Diggs drew coverage so the other mediocre NE WRs could get looks. Something has to give in the WR room.

Ok but you just said it “opponents will send the house”. We are drafting an OT 1st round, we signed an excellent FB and blocking TE, Campbell and Wilson will be better. It’s still only April.

Pats are taking OT? I would not count on that.

Besides all the good ones will be long gone by 31 because there will be a feeding frenzy in this draft specifically at DL and OL. The last 2 Super Bowls were decided by the winning teams DL and both losers had OT problems.

I've moved past getting pissed at the AI ******** articles to getting pissed at the people who get fooled into thinking these articles are real. I feel like AI is the new VCR or phone or streaming TV, where people need a 12 year old standing next to them to explain how technology works.

Now if someone could explain how I can get my AOL account and VCR+ to work up on my flip phone, I'll be all set.

100% feel the same. I can’t count how many times a day some family member sends ma a link to these b.s. “articles”. What’s even worse is when people talk about it as if it’s 100% factual. I have one family member who is always wanting to be right and will never cop to a mistake or even being wrong and she ALWAYS chooses to die on a hill over these articles. “They can’t POSSIBLY be fake or A.I., because everything *I* read is true…”. I can even have written proof that it’s fake etc…”nope, I saw it and I say it’s real/true.”. It makes for some really quick exits from the premises if I’m with her…

I feel that. I have a friend who sends me stuff that started with a real article or instagram post or something and AI turns it into a full outlandish, obviously fake story designed to pull at the heartstrings. And it gets him every time. And every time I have to find the original source send it to him and explain how AI has warped it into this piece of crap that he's now passing on as true.

There's a big push with the schools my kids go to about teaching financial literacy (balancing a checkbook, credit card debt, etc.). Valuable real world knowledge. And I feel like recognizing AI ******** is a thing that should be taught as a valuable real world skill, as well.

Good on those schools teaching useful stuff. Being able to tell the difference would be hugely valuable imo. Especially with how much everyone is on SM these days. Add it to the classical curriculum of P.E. (If they even have it still), sex ed, and study hall…I said study hall because I’m getting up there and memory is lacking, ha! At this point though I think it would be hard to convince people that it’s needed sadly. *Gets off soapbox*

It seems pretty much every Reddit thread with more than a few posts has someone calling out the OP for generating the post with AI, therefore doing what that community calls 'karma farming'. Often times that starts an argument about if it is or is not AI, often with the OP defending themselves. And indeed some times the OP admits it was generated at least in part with AI due to their poor English language skills, in essence asking for mercy.

The tone of such replies seems to be "you dummies, why are you paying attention to AI slop" when (a) this happens in cases when it's not clear if its AI or not and (b) it comes across as that person trying to draw attention to themselves, so doing the same thing they are accusing the OP of doing.

The bottom line is at some level we all have this desire to be heard. We want (and some people would say crave) attention and validation. And at the same time we often criticize others who are achieving that, calling them "attention whores".

I guess this is why psychiatrists make good money.

Like lots of new tech, the first response is fear. We don't understand it so we get fearful. I think, just like social media before it, there is a lot to be fearful of, because no one can say where things will end up. Yet on the other hand, I also know this isn't going to go away, so we better try to shape it in a way that is as beneficial as possible.

One recent thread is about how a person's employer mandates they use up a certain amount of AI credits/tokens per day regardless of if they feel they need AI to help them do their jobs or not. Their response is to use the AI to whiz through mandatory training by letting AI answer the questions for it.

They feel their employer is pushing AI so hard to (a) justify the decision to invest in AI services and (b) to show that AI can do the jobs of many of the employees better than the employees do. It seems like a pretty reasonable take on things. If the employer was happy with the way things are, they wouldn't be investing in AI to begin with. Yet of course they won't really know till they actually use AI to replace the employees, and as many firms are finding, once they fire them they can be hard to get back.

You make some good points about how AI is here to stay and that some people are going to use it to create their posts because they're lazy or don't feel confident in ability to say what they want to say. That's different to me than the obvious fake articles, images and video that prop up everywhere on social media and are purported to be true. To me that's on the level of scams, meant to steal peoples' time as a way to make money.

This one is probably somewhere in the middle. As was noted above, a whole series of these article all had virtually the same headline and same point and were designed as clickbait in order to make the "reporter" or outlet money. If that doesn't make you angry, then you're just a much more gentle person than I am and more power to you.

We had Diggs in the Super Bowl.

Why didn't his "WR1" magic powers manifest and create some more passing offense for us?

Oh yeah, because at 33 he's not a "WR1" anymore... as if that fan designated fiction title ever meant anything.

And just for your own edification, the Patriots passed for almost 100 more yards than Seattle did.

But now that we're mentioning it, how did the Patriot's defense hold Seattle scoreless for three quarters and shut down Jaxson Smith Njigba... the bestest WR1 who led the entire NFL in receiving yards and finished the SB with 4 catches for 27 yards?

Oh yeah, because it's a team sport, and if you have a Christian Gonzalez you can shut down a "WR1."

WR1 is a myth, it's a fever dream by people who think fantasy football equals real football. The Patriots WR's weren't good enough to win the most games in the NFL, win two games in the playoffs but suddenly not good enough in the SB... so they lost. If that's your interpretation of how that game went, or how football works... maybe stick to something you know... like basket weaving.

Wozzy is sober. Take your meds.

Agreed. I'm of the opinion as it's been proven over and over for us in NE. Having the running game especially a physical one will pay dividends as it will always keep a defense honest and the offense will be able to dictate the line of scrimmage. Having the smash mouth running game that Vrabel's building will have everyone open this season.

I guess I don't get angry because in my world view the trend towards on-line journalism being slop has started long ago. We've had a Felgerization of the online media world (won't even call it journalism) for a while. Maybe that's not fair to Felger who actually has some journalism chops (his radio gig is a schtick, as he openly admits in various interviews) so maybe I should call it a DovKiemanization? I think you know where I am going.

Part of me feels this mass dumping of slop should make the average person appreciate and support the real stuff more. Yet we can also see the average person is a ****ing dolt so I think it's safe to presume the slop is here to stay. See, I'm not all that gentle of a person...

I will say I watch a lot of u2b and have found some channels that are definitely AI but are digging into some niche subjects that interest me in the history and tech spaces. I doubt these are some evil plot to turn me into a slave to AI, they are just things that no human creator thought was worth their time to make content to cover these topics. They also do a good enough job with the content to not make it feel too much like 'slop'. Yet I've also found a LOT of true slop on u2b. Any time I run into that, I just use the app to block the channel so I never see it again. The ratio is high in favor of slop, like 80%, but to be honest if I find even one or two channels that end up in my regular rotation it's a solid win for me.

I have been on the Internet a LONG time (I started using Mosaic and remember when Netscape first came out, never mind FIrefox) and I think the core issue is the way we've monetized the Internet. Basically you make money by getting lots and lots of eyeballs, which means you win by appealing to the lowest common denominator, appealing to the base instincts of mankind. As the old saying goes "Eat ****, a billion flies can't be wrong!". If we had a better way to reward quality, we'd have more quality. Instead we reward the opposite, so that's what we end up getting.

Again, good points. I too often fall into the trap of "AI=bad" and forget that there are practical values to it if handled in an appropriate way, such as making content that humans wouldn't. I just tend to view those values as minor compared to the broader and more troubling implications of AI in our media/social media. We were already living in a media world where facts were becoming more manipulable, but with AI, Photoshop, Deep Fakes, what people see cannot be believed. That's why I believe teaching people to be skeptical and try to recognize AI are valuable skills moving forward because it's only going to become more pervasive.

Are these guys ALL using the same AI to write their articles? Sports "journalists" are so freaking lazy.

I think most people are not very motivated at work and are thus viewed as being lazy. I've worked for some of the biggest companies in the computing and networking fields and have noticed that everywhere I worked. In particular the place I was working for in the 1990s was doing what I thought was amazing things yet many (but not all!) of the people working there simply wanted to put in their hours and get out of there. I think that was because a lot of those workers got hired in that company's glory days and got used to everything turning up roses for them without having to work particularly hard. Good thing for me that I was highly motivated AND being paid a high-end hourly rate.

I know using AI to do things has become more and more common recently. But it's bare MINIMUM effort to at least edit the title so it's not the same as 1,000 others made by AI chat bots. It takes 10 seconds and rubbing two brain cells together to come up with an article title.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the names in the by-lines are people who don’t exist.

He made the right move leaving GB as they aren't going anywhere. There were the hot pick a few years ago, but those days are ending. Parsons isn't going to carry them just like he couldn't do in Dallas. Parsons is in my top 5 of the most overrated players in the last 25 years. Also, Doubs got paid.
