Player Signing Pats Sign Dre'Mont Jones 3/$39 million

I am not a fan of PFF, but I know others here are.

I am aware. Also aware that the Patriots are one of the cheapest franchises in the NFL, have upcoming massive paydays for 0 and 10 and needs at TE1, WR1, LT and RT. Throwing $39M at the defense that was already a strength is not how I would have deployed limited assets, especially not at hour zero of FA.
For those of you betting over/under on when "Pats are cheap" would come up, the answer appears to be 35 minutes.

He's an edge player at 281 pounds?

Bedard suggesting that Barmore may be looking at a “change of scenery” which would actually make Jones signing more logical. Just hope it isn’t a 6th if they do it

She’s one of the worst owners in the league.
It's really a race between her, Woody, Haslam and Stephen Ross at this point. And whatever Bidwell owns the Cardinals these days.

Jones plays edge so it won't affect Barmore. However, Barmore getting traded would not shock me at all as I've been calling it for a while. If you're going to have to be babysat due to your attitude, your play better be worth the hassle. It hasn't. He's a part of the "entitlement" crew.

I've read Jones is a better pass rushing inside. So if Barmore is moved, this could be part of the replacement plan.

There's really no good football reason to move on from Barmore but does seem like a bit of a problem child so it wouldn't shock me.

Handwaving a fact by placing it in quotations is an interesting coping mechanism. Per Mike Reiss:

2024: "Over the past 10 years, the Patriots ranked last in the NFL in cash spending at $1.62 billion, according to Roster Management System."

Something is off in Barmore’s head.

There are a lot reasons to move on from him:

He's being paid $21M per year to get after the QB, but he can't get to the QB with only 3 sacks in the last 25 games. All of his whopping 3 sacks came against the Dolphins and Jets. Absolutely pathetic.
He's terrible against the run
He has an attitude and entitlement problem it looks like the Pats are tired of dealing with
Legal issue.

Media is now predicting his ass is gone. I'll believe when I see it, but it's not going to shock me:

He's only being paid $13.5M this year and $20M each of the next two. That's the money yet to be paid and all that is relevant for decision making. Really just the $13.5M this year is, tbh.

Low sack numbers but great pressure rate. He's a problem for opponents inside even without flashy sack totals.

By the way, this signing is not a good sign for Chaisson. I'd be shocked if they paid too guys like this at that number.

You can't have a "great" pressure rate and not get to the QB. It's literally impossible. This is a dumb PFF stat you guys keep pushing that is subjective. Pro Football Reference has a completely different number that is very low which is more accurate.

They are already paying Williams. Both Williams and Barmore's cap hit is 15% combined. The production is not there to justify both cap hits. We will see what NE does soon.

So is it your stance that Mike Vrabel did nothing on this play? It's nonsense to suggest that pressure on the QB means nothing if there's no sack. The best defenses in the NFL are only going to get like 5 sacks a game at most but teams throw it 30+ times. Being able to impact the QB on other plays is critical.
