Enough said. Beat those Canadian losers lol. Just kidding, Canda played a great game and you feel for them. They gave it their all. Game winner in OT was from Megan Keller, who played at B.C and now plays for the Boston fleet along with the goal tender and Hillary Knight so thats pretty cool for a Boston connection.

Anyhow, great job ladies and now it's the men's turn!

thats great for Team USA

the womens curling team made the semis too... looking forward to seeing that play out

Have to say there's been some damn good hockey played in these Olympics so far, the best of it on the women's side but not by a lot.
I don't like the 3 on 3 OT format and hoped it wouldn't be used for the medal games but it is what it is.

Good game by USA. Canada were in tough and played their best game of the tournament. It could have gone either way but it didn’t. 3rd period did our girls in. No offensive zone time…

US Women were by far the best team in the tournament. US Men appear similarly dominant, Canada had to eke out an OT win over Czech just to make the medal round.

This has been the highest-level hockey I can remember in the Olympics.

When we're talking men's and women's I'd have to agree. The defensive side has improved in leaps and bounds on the women's side and for the most part the goaltending has been phenomenal

Yeah, the quality of women's hockey has become strikingly good, a huge improvement over just a decade ago.

We’ll get ya in the Men’s final (if we both make it).

Canada is the gold standard for hockey in the world, and we all know it in the US

We are appropriately floored

The US didn’t eke out an OT win vs Sweden ?

Dude.
First off, I'm Canadian and played hockey my whole life, still play.
Canada (men's) were lacklustre in their 1/4 final, but they are the clear favourite. Canada had to eke out a win in OT, but the US was dominate in their eked out OT win?
Canada Mens are the clear favourite.
US women's are ahead of the class by a wide margin. US has gotten younger and faster, Canada has gotten old and slow. I expected a 4+ goal win for the US, was surprised Canada kept it close, but the talent difference was very noticeable.
Unlike Maust I thought the women's hockey was a very tough watch. So sloppy compared to the men's hockey I grew up watching and playing. I have nothing against women's hockey, I watched it today just like every other women's International hockey tourney for the past many years, but it was really tough watch. US were better, Canada had a hard time completing a clean pass or making a simple play like like chipping the puck out.
Congrats to the US women, they deserved it, they are a far better team right now.

And I do agree with Maust on the 3 on 3.
Inexcusable to have a tourney of this importance be decided 3 on 3 in the Gold Medal game.
It's pond hockey.

I haven't watched a minute of the Olympics. They're all pretty much money-grubbing pros, media hucksters shilling for their "brand" and rabid narcissists at this point, aren't they? The notion - probably erroneous for some time now, in all honesty - that these are people motivated by a love of their sport, or - even more preposterous in these times - by a sense of pride in competing for their country is pretty much entirely horseshit, isn't it?

Ditto for college sports: couldn't care less The only basketball I enjoy these days is when I go to a local high school game. Those are terrific. The NBA is lousy basketball played by people you have to hold your nose to root for. Who needs it? The Tatum "documentary"? You can't be serious.

As for the NFL, that'll likely remain a somewhat guilty pleasure for a while longer, I suppose. It's a habit, and a lot of the current Pats team are solid, decent people, it seems to me, and I am happy to see them play their game, but I pay minimal attention to the other teams, except when they play the Pats.

Baseball? When I am looking for that sort of entertainment, I can paint an outbuilding, pull up a lawn chair, and watch it dry.

Can't speak for the US, but playing for Canada means a lot to our athletes and the rest of the country.
There are many sports in Canada (obv not hockey) that are severely underfunded, and athletes have to work ****ty jobs just to be able to afford to compete.

I thought overall the women's team defense was vastly improved pretty much across the board. Granted I didn't see every game but there was very little static D in the games I saw compared to the past. The level of skill displayed by the field on the women's side was an impressive improvement IMO. I think what you saw as offensive failure I saw as being largely caused by impressive team defense

I freely admit as a former goaltender my perspective is somewhat skewed to the defensive side of the game.

It wasn't so much the US team, they looked good.
Canada is far less skilled than usual right now, they are old and slow.
Their passing was sloppy, even when there wasn't pressure, it looked like they were playing with a bouncy ball. And it wasn't just today, Canada looked rough the whole tourney.
Really it's a two country sport, and usually it's incredibly close with Canada getting the big wins more often in the big tourneys. But right now Canada has dropped off, US is far better team.
Proud of my girls to keep it close , but in the end they just aren't good enough right now.

Not as much of a 2 country sport as it used to be on the women's side. The level of competition has picked up quite a bit.

Since its inception in 1990, Canada/US have played in every World Championship final except once in 2019 when USA beat Finland. Since it's addition to the Olympics in 1998, Canada and the US played in every gold medal game except once in 2006 when Canada beat Sweden.
So that's a total of 33 international championship games, and Canada/US has been the final matchup in 31 of those 33.
The other countries are getting better, but until someone other than Canada or the US wins a World Championship or Olympic Gold, it's a 2 team race.
