Edwards is the top guard, he is a free agent in his 20's, he'll get overpaid I would think. I haven't tracked the sites accuracy in the past but assume it's based on some historical data?

Edwards will be 29 at the end of March and he was a middle-of-the-road LG on a very good offense. The claims that he's the "top guard available" in Free Agency is really stretching things. Especially when Connor McGovern can play LG. There are other players who have actually played better, but come with injury warts or age warts. Dalton Risner put up better numbers than Edwards. So did Seumalo. The problem with them is that they're older than Edwards.

So, this idea that he's going to get paid the top 5 money the way Spotrac claims is just insane.

The top guard is Edwards and he's same age but months older than Onwenu. Onwenu is a better player overall.
If you go that route, you probably assume Onwenu will not age as well due to his weight problem.

Onwenu (age 28 when season starts) was 20th in pass block win rate per ESPN for Interior Lineman, PFF had him 13th Overall among Centers and Guards

Edwards (age 29) is not in top 20 PB win rate and 31st on PFF

McGovern (age 28) is 5th in PB win rate and 26th on PFF.

Linderbaum (age 26) is youngest and 4th PB win rate and 8th on PFF. He also wants to stay in Baltimore so....

If they had drafted Zach Frazier instead of Polk like I said.......Damn that 2024 draft

-Linderbaum at $17.7 per year,
-Mcgovern $16.2
-Edwards $19.9

If Lindenbaum is available and the bidding war doesn't get crazy I think you try to get him because pro bowl players in their prime don't become available often and center is the least costly line position. He will have several teams after him.

If you add Linderbaum, draft another guard to compete and hope Wilson and Campbell working together in season 2 with a top center will be improved. Or you take a flyer on a Vera-Tucker type player.

In the end they may spend money elsewhere and focus on a guard in the first round. If Olaivavega Ione drops to 21 maybe you can move up in front of Chargers. Or else you're looking at Caleb Lomu, Chase Bisontis and a couple other guys at 31. Of course, now you then have Wilson at center, a rookie LG and Campbell at LT.

No definitive answer at guard. Wilson actually rates well as a pass blocking guard but not so well-run blocking but also was a rookie. He should improve. Seems ideally suited for center though.

They passed up giving him $23 mil for last season - which admittedly is a bit high. So I'd guess they'd be willing to match any offers, does he want to be protecting a QB with an injury history in search of a SB, or a team with a young up and comer who's already been there.

I'm warming to the idea of spending some $ on Lindenbaum to secure the middle while drafting a guy like Caleb Lomu who, with experience at RT and LT could learn the ropes behind Moses and, if he can handle LT, one would think they might see what he can do at LG.

We could extend Onwenu and save $10 mil in his current cap and likely Lindenbaum's contract would probably average $18 mil so the initial cap hit would be less than that.

Lomu is exactly the type of OL to draft at 31 -billed as the RT of the future and someone who can backup at LG, he'd not be an outright threat to Campbell but still some needed depth and healthy competition, and we could find ourselves with 4/5ths of the OL set for the future, with competition at LG hopefully finding a solid player there too - all without stressing the cap.

Baltimore will probably resign Linderbaum and if they do not the Giants and Cleveland are the teams to watch for due to coach familiarity. Baltimore has 22.6M cap but only 48 players signed, so a portion of that available cap will go to several players. They will have to be creative, but do have some high dollar players that could be cut or restructured.

Giants have 7M available and 58 signed, so they are in a position to try and free space and make a big signing
Cleveland is -19M over with 55 players signed...Ewww
Pats have 35.2 and 63 signed..We have a good amount of depth under contract and are in a good position to upgrade starters.

I actually found a clip where he was at his locker after a game and a reporter asked if he wanted to stay in Baltimore and he said he did. But free agency is going to be a battle for his services and I think the Patriots can win that battle.

Milt Williams didn't want to leave Philly, but the deal was too good to pass on. As far as over pay goes that depends on how you look at it. They've been trying to re-sign Linderbaum since before they declined his 5th yr option. He's declined.

Austin Corbett just had his contract voided. So that's another name people will have to consider. Corbett has played all 3 IOL positions. I still prefer McGovern.

Campbell's short wingspan would be bolstered by a move inside to guard. Jared Wilson could eventually take over for Bradbury at center once he hangs up his cleats or gets injured.

And yeah I get it, Vrabel came out and said Campbell was staying at tackle. But a coach's job is to say all the right things and support his young players mental health. That being said, a GM's job is the field the best team possible and give that coach the best talent available.

If they find a massive stud OT in the draft, and he's unquestionably the best player available at that point, it would be criminal to not take him. Not only is left tackle a question, but Morgan Moses is old. You get the best group you can find and let camp competition sort it out. We all have great plans in life... but life often has other ideas and you need to be flexible.
