All year the offense thrived on chunk plays. I said all week this offense, w a 23 yr old QB in his first tournament and an offense without true game breakers, Maye was going to HAVE to take chances and throw into tight areas. Collinsworth said the EXACT same thing.
If anyone doesn't think mcdaniels told Maye the exact OPPOSITE you're a ****ing moron. All playoffs everything was super conservative and it showed in the lack of production. They rarely challenged the middle of the field 15-25 yards downfield. They were not going to Mount 10-12 play scoring drives on Seattle.
They needed to THROW on first down. And what does ****ing mcdaniels do? 4/5 drive starters were runs.
The entire game plan screamed ****ing Bill the Bozo....play conservative, close to the vest, don't take chances, and wait for the other team to turn it over...hope to get the ball at the other teams 30. If you're going to lose, go down swinging. Mcdaniels, once again, did exactly what I said he would do....he didn't start throwing downfield until they were down 2 scores .
This game was winnable. The outcome is on Mcdaniels

I do agree the outcome was on McDaniels, but I don't agree it was winnable through downfield throws. Seattle's scheme early in the game really took that away through early pressure and a smart zone/match, often with two high and sticky coverage that would have made downfield stuff super tricky. the couple of deep throws that worked late in the game I think had more to do with Seattle somewhat lifting its foot off the gas at a few moments because it knew the game was in hand.

As I said above, the McDaniels game plan was surprisingly bad and unadaptive in the first 2/3 of the game: despite Seattle showing very quickly that this was going to be a pressure game and that the left side of our line was super vulnerable, Josh (and Drake) just did not get consistent tight end and running back chips to help the left side (I have no idea why?).

In addition, our answer actually WAS in part the run game, if they had gone jumbo and forced Seattle out of the 2 high look. But we ran jumbo ONCE -- and it was a pass play? And we had few quick passing outlets, but the only possible answer were indeed short swing passes to the flat or quick throws, not down the field shots.

Look, at the end of the road, Seattle was clearly the better team. I'm not saying we could have won this game -- but McDaniels just did the team no favors on this one. And it's odd, because I think he's a very good coach.

Maye had to throw on early downs, which he did not. That's all on Mcdaniels and his Belichickian conservative offensive game plan. It definitely seemed mcdaniels didn't trust his personnel

That's such a ridiculous thing to say. Yeah our coaches are incompetent *sarcasm.

No. McDaniels gets super conservative in the biggest games. It’s an utterly idiotic thing to do, especially in a situation where you’re the underdog and you WANT to take risks and have a high volatility game because it will increase your chances of winning.

McDaniels needs to go. There’s a reason he fails as a head coach and Vrabel should not trust him. The bigger the game, the more conservative he gets. He’s 100% a product of Brady — and Brady ain’t coming back to help the Pats any time soon.

Maye’s shoulder was a significant injury. I’m absolutely convinced of it. Against Denver and the Seahawks he looked nothing like he did previously. Felt like I was watching Mac Jones throw a football all over again.

Been watching various Offensive players on all-22. It really was the pressure in the end that won the game. They were getting there too fast and the times they were not Drake was getting rid of it too fast at times. So many plays I'd watch a WR and see he gets open and I look back at QB and Drake is already sacked or pressured.

When Seahawks blitzed Pats let in 7 free rushers. When they didn't blitz they still pressured at a high rate. That led to the turnovers which led to 10 points. Despite the end score and the Pats offense struggling if they just allowed less pressure there were some plays to be made.

SEA had instant pressure 1 out of every 3 pass plays before the final 2 garbage time drives. pressure is one thing, instant and unblocked pressure more than 33% of the time is absurd.

Too bad the Pats defense is getting lost in all this. I think the whole "offense had a tell" thing is so overrated. BB back in the day would call out plays of teams form the press box and get them right 90% of the time. Did the Seahawks offense have a tell also because they couldn't do anything either.

If his shoulder's so bad then why doesn't it need surgery?

Some things you just don't need surgery for, but the pain can still be miserable. And when it comes to shoulders and throwing, I mean ****. Any damage is going to reflect significantly. Your range of motion can vanish.

Might be it does. And he played through it. Now we won’t hear anything during offseason.

Wouldn’t surprise me if that’s the scenario with both Maye and Campbell.
