He needs to play better against great defenses to be an elite QB. But frankly, he needs much better protection and skilled receivers.

Yes to both.

I want to hate on him hard, and he really has laid an egg in terms of adjusting to adversity this post-season, but still got the job done on some occasions.

Just very frustrating to see such incompetent offense all goddamn night. It's not the loss that has me angry, it's the manner in which they lost.

On the positive side - at least it wasn't the first SB shutout...

They didn't. However, I don't think any of the teams in the Brady era actually were as weak as this one. That said, yes this is a measuring stick loss to evaluate what we need to add.
2011 was pretty bad team especially defensively, that was a pretty bad Giants team they lost to.

Maybe i had too many drinks but i could swear i remember Edelman trying to cover Bolden in the 4th Q of the AFCCG that year.

The post season has left some doubts about what Maye's ceiling is. I think he has a high floor but ceiling is in doubt.
The problem with QB is that as important as it is, he depends on the other 10 guys around him + the coaches. Most media members had the Pats as bottom 10 at skill positions, if not worse. Maye had them playing above their pay grade.

Vrabel came here because he believes Maye has enormous potential. It's the job of Vrabel, the other coaches, and the front office to help him realize it.

I wasn’t alive for it but this had Super Bowl 20 vibes. But not quite as bad.
Scary how similar the season was. Pats break Orange Bowl curse only to get crushed in the Super Bowl. This years team breaks the Mile High curse only to get crushed in the Super Bowl

Yeah, that happened on a couple of plays.

The passing gameplan seemed to rely on us being able to block four and for Drake to drop back and scan the field.

I don't know how in the biggest game of the year we don't make drastic changes when it was abundantly clear that our OL wasn't up to that task.

I also don't know why we seemed to go away from the one offensive thing that seemed to be reliably working even a little - running the ball especially with Rhamondre.

Hard to decide who lost us this game more the OL or the Offensive coaching staff. Drake was not accurate but he was being harassed and players who should have caught balls that hit them in the hands dropped them.

Defense had some poor tackling in key moments that could have shifted momentum and every little window they threw into seemed to work.

Very disappointed. Really didn't expect our offensive staff to see how much the offense had struggled during the entire post season to seemingly come out believing that for no apparent reason our OL was suddenly going to start pass blocking well again.
Abandoning the run was criminal.

Fact also is, they have money this offseason sure, but bills coming due. They can't pay to fill all holes and so they need to draft.

Non competitive SB.

I think next year Drake will get overtaken by Caleb Williams as best qb out of 2024 class.
Bo Nix and Daniels may already be better also

One possible issue…this early success could stunt future growth.

31st pick in each round isn’t going to get you a blue chipper.

More depth/role players.

This team needs some studs.
I think they trade 31 for a player IMO.

OT should be our first pick in the draft. It’s what killed us tonight.
You may remember that the Pats were targeting a guard in the 2nd round last year.

The Dolphins scooped us on him and we settled for Henderson. The Pats were invested in improving the OL.

The defense played a decent game. So many little things pissed me off. Henderson returned kickoffs late and got really good yards. This is the final game, there was no reason to wait so long. The game was still competitive and we had at least three quarters to bench Campbell and didn't. WHY?? Maye played bad and couldn't make simple throws. Our wrs were not the problem outside of a drop by Boutte. Maye refused to run early. Why???? Josh called a horrible game and couldn't adapt.

The offense was beyond disappointing. ALL POSTSEASON. The entire oline could be replaced and have nowhere to go but up. Good season but we could've went out better than this.

Postgame ripping Maye and damn rightfully so

Way too conservative on offense. **** mcdaniels. Mcdaniels is a ****ing terrible OC unless he has a run game. Mcdaniels had no answer for Seattle's blitzing. It was a pathetic display. Embarrassment. Complete and utter belt to ass embarrassment. Maye exposed in the playoffs. They really got lucky in the playoffs. Nix injured , Schultz and Nico Collins Out, and Sam diegos oline all hurt.
I have a serious question for you. The Patriots competed against 32 teams and came in second. You call them an embarrassment.
Can you please describe all of your successes in life that give you this air of superiority?
I’m guessing from your posts you must be the CEO of a Fortune 500 company who built it from the ground to a multi billion dollar international monolith.

Am I right? Please brag about your accomplishments to us.

IT WAS A GREAT YEAR THAT EXCEEDED ALL OF OUR EXPECTATIONS.

CONGRATS SEAHAWKS!

REMEMBER, BEFORE THERE WAS A 2001, THERE WAS A 1996. SB XXXI WAS A BIG PART OF THE STORY FOR THE CORE OF PATRIOTS LEGENDS THAT MADE UP THE HEART OF OUR DYNASTY. PERHAPS THE SAME WILL APPLY HERE.

WE WERE A YEAR EARLY...

ITS AWFULLY HARD FOR A 23 YEAR OLD QB TO THRIVE AGAINST THE BEST DEFENSIVE MINDS IN THE GAME. IT TOOK PEYTON MANNING A LONG TIME, MANY NEVER MAKE IT.

NOT SURE DRAKE HAS THE CEREBRAL TALENTS TO EVER BE LIKE BRADY....HE REMINDS ME MORE OF A YOUNG FAVRE BUT FAVRE WITH BRADY EXPECTATIONS. THATS TOUGH.

ITS BEEN A HELL OF A RIDE. NOW WE CAN ARGUE ABOUT MOCK DRAFTS. REALLY HOPING WE HAVE A GREAT DRAFT AND LAND TWO SOLID OT PROSPECTS.

HAVE A GREAT OFFSEASON EVERYONE...
Thank you for capitalizing every letter in your post, I would have missed it otherwise

Ugh, what to do with Campbell? Was it a lingering injury issue and he wasn’t fully recovered? Did he slam headfirst into the rookie wall? Is he not the long term answer at LT?

This offseason will be interesting for shaping next year’s OL.

Someone has to be open

Ring I really think he leaned too hard into trying to find the kill shot, something that worked this whole season, but this game demanded that "take what you can" play...

When he did find those, he threw the ball way too hard or high.

Frustrating. So much potential in him. He just laid an egg. It happens but **** it sucks.

Clearly this is not the start of another dynasty. The rebuild needs to resume immediately.
I'm pretty darn sure that's where the "house money" idea came from: pretty much everyone recognized this was a flawed team in a season where every team had to weather flaws and/or injuries. They just did a better job of navigating them than everyone else in the AFC.
