Only think I can think of is there is something contractually binding him (FOX or the Raiduhs) to not publicly endorse/support an NFL team over another at a national media level (TV, social media, podcasts, etc).

Statues, retirement ceremonies, etc do not fall into this category as "rooting" as they are regional events.

Also if he openly cheers for the Pats that means he is publicly cheering against his team's new head coach on Sunday. Sorry but that's not a great look.

I'm sure the Pats understand. I'm also sure he is reaching out to them in private.

He's got a statue in Foxboro, has friends here on the staff and he's trying to (more like been told to) maintain some level perceived objectivity while he calls the game. My point is CEOs and executives have those types of clauses in their employee agreements.

Say he doesn't have that in his employee agreement, he then needs to say, "I have a warm spot for the Bucs and the Raiders." He isn't going to open himself up to that criticism from those fan bases.
