With all the coaching openings, if they think they have their guy it is better to just go for it.

Early thoughts, not dorky or hungover enough

I woke up too early today and had a long flight and somehow read this as "Dolphins hiring Patriots DC" - extremely confused. Yeesh.

I wonder how long before he's asked to tank and then pushed to walk the plank into being fired. Any bets?

I'd say... Year 2.

Maybe he’ll be a fine head coach, but nothing really stood out with him as DC this year. GB finished 11th in fewest points allowed, and gave up 30+ three times in 5 games once Parsons went down. They did better last year, 6th in fewest points allowed. We’ll see how it goes.

Guy only did halfway well when he had freakin Micah Parsons on the team. The defense crapped the bed almost every week once Parsons went out. Not sure what part of that screams that he should run a team. Good luck Miami. Don’t think we need to worry about the Fins for a while.

Vrabel was a defensive coordinator in HOU for one year before TEN hired him as HC. Texans were dead last in scoring defense that year.

Schematically running one side of the ball is not always what translates to head coach. The HC role is a lot more about managing personalities and finding the right coaches to delegate to. I wouldn't write off a candidate specifically based off of how his defense in GB played. In fact, I think that gets over emphasized in these head coach searches. Being a good coordinator does not always translate directly to being a head coach and a lot of these guys fail on account of those other skills that aren't properly emphasized in the hiring process.

No idea anything about this guy so it may not apply, just putting that thought out there for consideration as we start judging these hires.

I think this is a hire for tank job for 2 years . With no QB and no cap space nobody is gonna join the fins. Mcdaniels got a huge gift from the ross family by getting fired. Technically should land up with Josh in Buffalo and they can be unbeatable.

Always happy to have a division rival hire a first time defensive side of the ball head coach.

Mark 4 wins from division thanks to jets and fins and maybe get 2 from Buffalo too . So all we need is 5 to 6 more wins from remaining 11 games to qualify for postseason.

I honestly have never heard of the guy… Didn’t think that the Packers defense was that great this year either… What are you signing out of left field as far as I could see but maybe they know something we don’t… Looks like typical Stephen Ross

I think you are giving McDaniel way too much credit ….

Looks like the Dolphins will continue to be irrelevant for the next 3-5 years. Awesome.
Between this, the Bills likely hiring a downgrade at coach, the Jets being the Jets, things are looking peachy!
