Thats why there is instant replay, Ross. The defender fell on him. There is no way to determine if the the ball was loose or not because the defender was on top of him
And they replayed it.
All turnovers are replayed.

Ok fine we'll keep going. If you were Andy I'd stop

It keeps comes up not because of a lack of misunderstanding of the rule but the back judge's observation and applicability of the rule to what happened.

This pic shows he has control, his knee is down, and is down by contact.

The "assumption" the ref makes is he lost control when he hit the ground which at that point would have been a live ball. I get that.

It's speculative to say the ball dislodged when Cooks hit the ground. We didn't see any juggling. The defender fell on him after he was down by contact. Does that mean defenders can rip the ball out when defenders are down by contact? Why wasn't this ruled a contested catch?

That is my problem with the call.
2 Bills Drive has much better photos and different angles.

That Ref crew just made the list.

...from the receiver's control, i.e., imposed loss of control.
A ball can be in control and ripped out. Happens all the time and the ruling is the runner was down.

The fact that the other guy came away with the ball is prima facie evidence that he lost control - otherwise he would still have had the ball himself.

Ok so last week or whenever it was when a defender comes away from a play with the ball in his hands means TreyVeon (or whomever it was) fumbled?

I'm not 100% sold he caught it but it was such a bang-bang play what annoys me is that the refs ruled the way they did on the field. There should have been a significant clock stoppage for review and then they could decide it.

Bills turnovers alone meant they deserved to lose the game but the final part of OT would absolutely have left a bitter taste in our mouths (hehe) if that **** happened to the Pats.

Please post a pic of Cooks not controlling the ball.
Can't post a pic, it's a process to the ground. Here's the video, first 5 seconds followed by McDermott's insane rant.

I'm not going there. I have self respect

I'm at a loss with all of these Allen defenders, as I said in another post I can't understand how a fan base who watched the GOAT do his thing for almost 2 decades can watch a gunslinger like Allen and think he's among the best QBs in the league. He has talent, that's it. But Tom showed us all (or at least I thought he did) it's not talent that wins championships it's heart, and desire and most of all intelligence. QB is by far the position in sports that requires the most intelligence and Allen doesn't have it. He's too reckless with the ball and the ball is LIFE for a football team.

So if I'm trying to win a fantasy football championship I'll draft Josh Allen, but a real football championship? No thanks.

Allen isn’t close to Tom and he had a poor game. But lets be honest, no qb dead or alive is taking buffalo to the super bowl. You have to score 30+ week in week out against the leagues elite without any actual wr on top of that. Its not a realistic ask from the coach/gm.

Allen scored a go ahead td in arrowhead with 13 seconds left and lost the game without touching the ball again. This stuff matters, its one thing to do screw up when you’re playing for a team that would probably win otherwise and its another thing to do it when you ARE the team. Hes going to have games like jaxonville where he is superman and then he’ll have games like last night. Its not sustainable over 4 do or die games

The Bills defense lost it because they were on the field the entire game -
nah.
the bills dominated top - wasn't even close

The fact that people are hyper fixated on photos is the whole problem. You can’t have a photo of surviving the ground. It’s a process. It has to be a video. It’s been this way for years.

How many catches have we seen over the years where the guy seems to get it but when he hits the ground he loses the ball and it’s ruled incomplete? A million of them. It’s the same thing. Only difference is instead of hitting the ground, the defender takes it.

There is no down by contact until a catch is completed. And there is no catch until you survive the ground. You may not like the rule, but it is clear and I think a good one. No fake catches.

ARTICLE 3. COMPLETED OR INTERCEPTED PASS

A player who makes a catch may advance the ball. A forward pass is complete (by the offense) or intercepted (by the defense) in the field of play, at the sideline, or in the end zone if a player, who is inbounds:

  1. A) secures control of the ball in his hands or arms prior to the ball touching the ground;

  2. and

  3. B) touches the ground inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands;

  4. and

  5. C) after (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, clearly performs any act common to the game (e.g., extend the ball forward, take an additional step, tuck the ball away and turn upfield, or avoid or ward off an opponent), or he maintains control of the ball long enough to do so.

  1. If a player, who satisfied (a) and (b), but has not satisfied (c), contacts the ground and loses control of the ball, it is an incomplete pass if the ball hits the ground before he regains control, or if he regains control out of bounds.

If Cooks had turned into a Rusher, the play is dead when his knee touches the ground and he is touched down by contact.

As a Receiver Cooks must have possession throughout the whole play which includes surviving the ground. A Rusher can break the plane of the Endzone goal line, go to the ground and fumble, but its still a TD. A Receiver catching a TD pass at the goal line is treated much different.

Hadn’t really thought about it all that much, but you’re not wrong that the Pats are probably the top pull for ratings in the AFC at this point. Houston is not popular, and while Denver definitely has a big fanbase, the average fan may decide not to watch when they find out Denver has just lost their starting QB.

I actually think the opposite. If Stidham somehow manages to lead the Broncos to the Superbowl he becomes an overnight folk hero, and casual fans flock in to see whether the Little Engine that Could can make it up that last hill. All of America would be rooting for Denver.

I guess according to these people this was a catch and the Billy Cundiff miss never happened...
