2026 Red Sox Thread

So for all the pissing and moaning from everyone, here, pundits, anyone..this was a better deal than giving a 32 year old half broken down Bregman 165 for 5. Much better deal. In fact whether it was sheer luck or not, the Red Sox are far better off with this than that.

All the Red Sox don't care about winning horseshit is just that. They rebuilt the farm that everyone was screaming sucked. They made a couple of horrific trades from said farm but it's still in really good shape. Now, they have next to no holes in their rotation, lineup or bullpen. Anyone who thought the Red Sox don't care about winning because they don't want to pay 30 plus year olds 10 year contracts need to take a timeout for a little while.

Or maybe you ought to take off those Sox colored glasses and see what this ownership is really selling

So you are gonna tell me this team isn't, if healthy a title contender? As much so as any other team not named the Dodgers? And there is still more they might do.

Playoff team, yes. Title contender is a different question.

The pitching is fine. They need bats.

Bro.

You defended this team all off-season last year. @maust and I have been consistently sharing how we don't like how they pander to the pink hats, how they try to control the narrative, and, most importantly, maintain small market payroll thinking while being a major market team. Then, once all of us had bought in on them late last summer, you were down on them. Are you just trying to be contrarian? There's a whole slew of fans that feel like we do, including guys like Portnoy, who's voice might be the loudest. Hell, Tom Caron even spoke up. Right now, they are so far from the Dodgers it's not even funny. They don't have a full time third baseman, and have Romy Gonzalez listed as 1st on the depth chart at 2nd AND 3rd, while backing up everyone else at short and first. All this assumes Contreras (who hasn't hit over .270 since 2019) is the every day 1st baseman. Sonny Gray is older than dirt as your #2. Payton Tolle has great upside, but he desperately needs another pitch to reach his potential. The bullpen is solid. They need a bat, and are too GD cheap to pay what the market bears. You can rant and rave guys aren't worth it, but if other teams are paying it, then they are indeed worth it.

I was a Sox fan before the Pats, and I really want to like them, but John Henry has used up all of the goodwill as far as I am concerned. Sad, because he should be a saint here in New England. Saved Fenway, improved it, brought multiple titles to the city, but he's pissed it away, all while offering us a pink umbrella emblazoned with the Boston Red Sox logo to shield us from the urine stream. All set.

Bo Bichette? Ok, fine. Is he moving to third? Is Story? It's not ideal.

Yup. They only have one quality bat right now.
Obviously, Roman Anthony.
This kid will be a superstar very soon.
After him? Not one guy you can trust in a crucial situation at the plate. Story probably their 2nd best offensive player had a really good year last year except he still strikes out too much and doesn't get on base enough.
One more quality bat would improve entire lineup

You don't think Anthony isn't gonna turn into a monster this season? Mayer will perform much better as well.

Everyone is far from the Dodgers at this point in time. Mayer will be the third baseman until Story leaves. Period. He has all the talent in the world although health is an issue. I trust the Red Sox and him have worked on that with him.

You are entitled to think the way you do, however they are 6th in payroll as of today. 6th. 3.7 over the second apron. You fans feel the way you do because the media has brainwashed you to think that way. In order of people who have embarrassed themselves are Caron, Merloni, Bradford, Carrabis. and on and on. Anyone with half a brain knows that Bergman isn't worth 165 for 5 not to mention 175 for 5. Those that whined about the Red Sox not giving him a no trade embarrassed themselves. Those that want to trade Mayer etc for Marte are also really out of touch.

They might yet get an elite 2B. Plenty of options out there.

@Steve102 that must be some mighty fine Kool-Aid to have the drinker convinced we are the ones that have been brainwashed in spite of the fact we've been saying this for years and the media has only gotten around to it in the last couple.

The question is can they get 600 plate appearances out of them. Same with Casas. Story is older than Bregman. Can he give them 600 plate appearances again? I love the young talent they have but must to prove they can stay on the field before I say they are title contenders let alone win their division.

Did you not see me roast Breslow for his trade for May? How about Gray? Yeah Kool Aid my ass. The lineup is gonna rake right now and any addition will only help that. Abreu is just hitting his stride as well and wins Gold Gloves. Ceddane should hit better.

People are just still pissed about Betts. F that guy. Didn't want to be here so good riddance. Contrast that with Roman who loves the area and wants to be a Red Sox and they rewarded him for that. I will roast them when it's warranted. I won't when it's not. Thats just the way it is.

I knew last year was all about the kids. And they performed vastly better than I had hoped. Anthony doesn't get hurt, they get past the Yankees I have no doubt. Giolito as well. Health matters and by July I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised at just how good the Red Sox are. Again, if healthy.

I agree. The Sox seem to be building incrementally and avoiding long veteran contracts that lead to dead money, but they lack hitting and will struggle to win the division. They might be fun to watch. Every year the kids seem to be a few years out.

The AL East is going to be brutal for a few years. Toronto and B'more are seriously upping their game. IDK what the Yankees are thinking but they seem poised to have injuries turn them into a .500 club soon.

Connerly Early brining the heat along with a nasty changeup. Love the King of Juco.

11 HRs from Sox DHs since Devers was traded for disposable scraps.

"Pitching and Defense"

After 5 games....
4.78 era
2.6 runs scored/gm
On pace for 130 errors, 14 more than their MLB leading 116 "E's" in '25.

Go Saux !

Note: Sox solution at 3rd base for '26 has started 0-14 before his first benching of the season.

This Red Sox season has a distinct “Jerod Mayo Patriots” smell about it. And maybe an absolute embarrassment of a season is exactly what needs to happen for fans to put so much pressure on Henry that he either sells or actually does something meaningful to make the team an actual contender again.

While the offseason moves were not awe-inspiring, the roster has a lot of holes etc, it is also getting to the point where Cora had to start being questioned as a fit. Team seems to have no heart and make an awful lot of stupid plays.

Manager ........

GM...................

Owner........ ......

Regarding Cora.....
Yearly horrendous starts to the season.
Yearly lack of baseball fundamentals
At some point, there has to be more than his so-called ability to connect with Latino players, toe the Company line (and cheat). Devers is gone. Babysitting duty should be over.

And Breslow.........his qualifications are: Only guy willing to interview
Complaining about Ownership is futile. No sound businessman punts on an investment with both accelerated growth and top of the market yield.

Go Bruins !!!!
