I agree. I have a weird soft spot for McDaniel. You can talk about the Pats "going to sleep" but you can also say that, for a bit of the game, they were out-thought and out-coached -- until the ineptitude that goes with an injured and overmatched team kicked in and they gave up stupid plays.
Miami never led and scored 10 points all game. Can you write my next annual review?

They did seem to turn it around after the GM got canned. I can't imagine there's a correlation, but ...

I think the King Pin is an excellent offensive mind, but he does seem to get bored (for lack of a better word) with the other phases of the game. I'd wager with a real QB, he'd be outstanding as an OC. McDaniel got a decent showing out of Ewers, probably enough to warrant Ewers making a career out of carrying a clip board and being a respectable #2. I'm just not convinced McDaniel is a well rounded HC.
I think he was given a lot of very fast players and used the schemes he learned in SF to use them somewhat effectively. And underperform.

McDaniels offended in Miami have ranked 11,2,22,25 in scoring.
With all the weapons he was given it’s hard to say he’s done a good job with that offense.

Would you hire an OC if you were guaranteed to be 11,2,22,25 the next 4 years? I wouldn’t.

Will BB get consideration?

There is not much out there to choose from this year for HCs.

I’d love to see him get the all-time wins record.

Sure.

"Intelligent, knowledgeable, hard-working, but combative. Picks fights on the basis of one-sided adversarial interpretations of others' contributions. May have insecurity problems. Unlikely to co-operate with counselling, but worth a try."

There you go!

"...might be worth trying in an isolated and solitary environment only. Does not work and play well with others. Not suitable for employment in a group environment."

And when the Dolphins beat the Bills 30 - 13, and lose to the Bengals 45 - 21, they are not skitsos? Not sure I agree with your rational. Seems a bit arbitrary, which is OK. Maybe we disagree.

With your grading of McDaniel you should be recommending me to run the world.

So the list is up to 5 teams looking for HC? Browns, Falcons, Giants, Cardinals, Raiders.. Did I miss any?
And I think that’ll be it for now.

We’ll see what happens with McDaniel once Aikman picks the Dolphins new GM.

He has not really done anything crazy outstanding but I do think he's kind of exceeded expectations to a degree considering how screwy Cleveland is. If he got to go work for a more normal/stable organization I do think he'd do much better. But I'm not sold that he's actually an excellent coach.
He had an 11-7 season, and he had two playoff appearances. In Cleveland.

Just like da Jete, the problem is ownership. They don't know what they're doing. They don't know when they have a good thing or a bad thing.

On Watson, well, yeah, there was that whole thing about Watson's predatory sexual practices. Who wants that thing to be attached to the leader of your team?

And while no one saw his current situation happening, he was indeed going the wrong way his last season in Houston.

What we all did see was the huge, huge price tag.

Somehow ownership talked themselves into signing that contract.

It's not like there's zero risk of a player getting a big payday and then checking out.

Clearly CLE was so fixated on Watson that it seems they were also OK with removing some standard checks and balances in that contract.

Whomever takes over in CLE will also have that millstone around their neck, not to mention the dumb-ass owner.

Not that I’m defending Haslam in any way, but there were plenty of reasons to fire Stefanski. His offense is a poor imitation of Kubiak’s. He hasn’t adjusted very well in game. His teams are consistently undisciplined which always a sign of a bad coach. And so on. Yes, he had a crappy situation there with Haslam and Berry, but Stefanski was not a victim. They should have fired Berry as well.

I don’t think Stefanski will do much better elsewhere.
