PATRIOTS NEWS Breer: Eliot Wolf will stay. Relationship between Wolf and Vrabel worked from the start

Wolf personally picked Polk, so I am not sure how great of a scout he is.
This is the thing. Wolf is really only going to figure out the measurables. Making a call on the intangibles - coachability, mental, scheme fit, locker room fit - that is more up to the coaching staff. Wolf needs to work alongside his staff and understand what they’re looking for to make appropriate judgment there. Obviously he got zero help there in 2024 from Mayo’s crew but he did far better with Vrabel and company in 2025.

Based on the effort the Kraft's made to shove Elliot Wolf down the viewer's throats in Forged in Foxboro, I'm going to say Wolf had very little to do with anything. This seems like pure propaganda from Breers Pats sources - Jonathan Kraft.

He was wrong on all of the picks past the 1st round in 2024.
LOL - talk about burying the lead. He was wrong about the entire draft, except the part about picking a pro bowl potential all probably MVP QB. You know, the most important piece that completely changed the franchise's trajectory for the next 15 years.

So who was responsible for picking Maye? Kraft?

We had the #3 pick. It's not like he selected Aaron Rodgers in the 20s. Maye was a no brainer.

What is with people defending this guy?

A lot of people, including a sizable number on this board, had argued that the Pats should trade down for extra picks. And many mediots were arguing the Patriots weren't "ready" for a QB and should just "build the team for" their future QB.

He said it was a no brainer so people with no brains aren’t relevant

I am not defending him. I am saying he got the only pick that truly matters right so that buys him a lot of rope.

I loved this cartoon about Columbus as a kid. There was this episode that stuck with me some 30+ years later. After he returned from his first Americas trip, somebody threw him a party. One of the attendees started saying what Columbus did was nothing special and anybody could have done it. Columbus took a raw egg and asked the guy to make it stay upright. The guy tries many times and could not do it. Columbus takes the egg and cracks it on the table thereby creating a platform to keep the egg upright.

The guy then says oh, that's easy, I could have done it too. Columbus' response was anybody can do anything once they are shown how.

Always stuck with me because it is something I see repeatedly everywhere. People love to minimize other people's accomplishments by saying that was easy, anybody could have done it. Hindsight is 20/20.

When it comes to Columbus and his upright egg, I'll take Vespucci, at least he knew where was.

The NFL is a crapshoot at best... but this year's draft was better than seen in a while. Perhaps the Wolf, Cowden and Vrabel triumvirate balance out this process to have made it the success that it was.
This year will be a test of how this process works as their draft picks will be towards the end of each round and their picks will have to be spot on to continue the rebuild this team...

no need to fix what isn’t broken.

I think I can.

I choose to believe last year's draft was Cowden's influence!

Then you are indifferent if Wolf stays since Cowden is here.

Did you listen to Breer. Tonga and Woodson were because of Wolf and his staff and not Cowden.

This is crap Rob. Blaming Wolf's draft on Belichick is crazy.

If I could see Wallace and Polk weren't worth a damn, anyone worth their salt could see it too. My god, I watched Wallace for 4 straight years.

Do you need me to post all my pre-draft Polk stuff?

This is basic.

They were bad.

Are bad.

I definitely can blame the fact that Belichick understaffed the scouting department and refused to use advanced analytics for scouting in 2022 when Wolf scouted Polk and Wallace and others. Besides, the Patriots got great grades for their 2023 draft immediately after the fact. Including Polk and Wallace.

NFL.com gives them a B+

And the Patriots misused Polk in his rookie season. They made him an X receiver when he clearly is a possession WR. So who knows what he could have been if he was used correctly. The Pats decided to move on since he was injured for the season after coming off offseason surgery. And he wasn't injury prone in college. So Wolf couldn't see that coming.

I am not sure why Jonathan Kraft would want to be pushing Eliot Wolf propaganda at this point. Wolf isn't in danger of losing his job. There are no reports that Vrabel and Wolf are in conflict. And Wolf isn't seeking the spotlight.

Hell, the Breer report posted was broadcasted two days before I made this post and no one was talking about it. How is that propaganda? It isn't like anyone is trying to make this a major story.

Not making this all about you, but everyone in general. People have gotten so overboard with their suspicion of the media that they believe any story they don't like is some kind of fake news or propaganda.

I like the checks and balances of having Wolf, we don't need Vrabel going all Bill and having too much power.

His coaching staff and drafting went down the toilet when he got too much power in Tennessee, it's too much for one man in the modern NFL.

It's more having someone who isn't just a Vrabel yes man in the room than it being Wolf though, it's easy when you're winning to say just let Vrabel do what he wants next minute you got coaching friends prospects being drafted and a bunch of friends kids all over the coaching staff.

They are all the same when they have absolute power, it's who they like over who's best and most qualified.

Mcdaniels has been great for maye.

My books still out on what Wolfe actually has been doing. He needs to put together a few good years before the stink wears off

People are arguing with the Cult of Belichick, they give Belichick credit for any good picks, and blame Wolf for the bad ones, then they give dismiss him picking Kaye, and blame him fr the rest of the 24'draft. Then, in 25', when they were using his evaluation system for the first time they pretend he was never there. They ignore logic and just keep pushing their agenda.

The most important thing for this franchise long term is keeping this front office, Vrabel
Included, together. Last year was the best free agency and draft they have ever had, they hit on almost every decision. Unfortunately the news, if correct, that Cowden never moved his family here is disturbing, however Vrabel obviously understood he's here short term, and has probably planned for losing him already.

idc honestly, vrabel is running the show

He said it was a no brainer so people with no brains aren’t relevant
that was honestly the weirdest **** ever. i’ve never heard that you can’t take a QB not because of the prospect but because the team isn’t ready. Extremely stupid, you always take the QB if you believe in the kid.
