PATRIOTS NEWS Breer: Eliot Wolf will stay. Relationship between Wolf and Vrabel worked from the start

It may be that during the late lamented Condiment regime Wolf was allowed too much leeway and is now getting better structure to work within.

Vrabel implied that Wolf took the **** for things that weren't his fault, but they never went into detail on it. It could have been that he let Mayo get the guys he wanted, but since Wolf had final say that's on him.

He was wrong on all of the picks past the 1st round in 2024.

He was using the tools Belichick allowed him to have for the scouting for the 2024 draft. He was drafting with one hand tied behind his back. He totally revamped the scouting department over the last two years to add things that most other teams had and the Pats didn’t like an advanced analytics department.

If the throuple is working, why should I complain?

Wolf personally picked Polk, so I am not sure how great of a scout he is.
He also helped scout and recommended 2rd round pick TreVeyon Henderson...among others.

I don’t know about Wolf. Who’s to say that Vrabel and Cowden weren’t the main decision makers when it came to the 2025 draft and 2025 free agency. Cowden is Vrabel’s guy. I’d like to see the Pat’s move away from Belichick’s personnel guys. But I guess if Vrabel and Cowden are ok with it, I’ll trust their judgement.

I'm not surprised because of how Maye did this season. Had Maye done poorly, Wolf would've been gone. It's that simple. I won't be shocked if he's named GM.

That would be a mistake. The smart move would be to name Cowden GM, because the minute the season is over teams are are going to start calling to make him their GM. The Patriots can avoid that by naming Cowden GM, pay him more $$$, and give him final say, that's how you block the rest of the league and keep the front office together.

You can bet everything that he's staying. These articles don't come out by accident.

If Vrabel likes him so do I.

I know a lot of people hate Eliot Wolf. But I feel a lot of his failed drafts and free agencies in the past, but I think it had a lot to do with the tools he had which was sparse since Belichick does not believe in analytics for scouting.

Breer credits Wolf and his staff for identifying Khyiris Tonga and Craig Woodson. Breer says that Vrabel sat in with Wolf and the scouts early and was impressed.

It is hard to argue with the success of the offseason the Patriots had. The credit goes to Wolf, Vrabel, and Cowden combined.

We could see the mistakes of the 2024 draft as soon as the picks were made. I watched Wallace in 40 games. I made numerous posts about how bad and weak Polk was from January through March of 2024. Turned out Robinson and Baker were bad picks too.

As for analytics, that's what brought Smith-Schuster here instead of Jakobi Meyers. Give me the old fashion sensibility that answers the question: "Is he good at playng football?"

We are going to be wrong a lot making these assessments based on a judgement about any single player evaluation. Not to mention that the bits of info we get give us any kind of reliable picture of the reality.
I think it's fair to judge his selection of Polk. AND Caeden Wallace. AND Layden Robinson. AND Javon Baker.

The picture we see isn't very good.

Came here to say the same. I've been extremely critical of Wolf in the past, but it's time to lay that pitchfork down.
If we lose in wildcard round, prepare for the Triumphs and FCB’s to blame the loss on him.

Again, the 2024 draft was scouted under the Belichick regime. Wolf was hamstrung by Belichick’s antiquated belief that you keep the scouting department lean and mean and advantaged analytics are not to be used. The Pats had one of the smallest or the smallest scouting departments in the NFL.

You have to give Wolf at least a full year to get a real scouting department up and running. Most teams need a year when there is a change in the front office because they are working with the old regime’s scouting.

From the moment Kraft made Wolf in charge he started to beef up the scouting department. Albert Breer said that the Patriots scouting department was something out of the 1980s. He said teams like the Eagles would laugh at the Patriots and their scouting and sports science department or lack there of. Wolf had to build it up and that took time.

And it is fair to judge his selections of Trayvon Henderson, Craig Woodson, Wilson, and all the other picks this year. And the picture we see of this year is very good.

You cannot put all the blame on the picks last year on him and give him none of the credit for this year’s picks. It doesn’t work that way.

The scouting department was remade in his image over the last two years. Let’s see how they do going forward. He will have a lot of responsibility for the free agents and draft picks going forward,

And if you give none of the credit of last offseason to Wolf and all of the credit to Vrabel and Cowden, then you don’t care if Wolf stays or not because you believe Vrabel and Cowden makes all the personnel decisions anyway.

There was nothing in this report about what Wolf did. Everything was attributed to “the scouts and the coaches.”

Personally, I think Wolf is willing to be a team player and Vrabel is willing to work with almost anyone. But nothing about this tells me who has more juice in the personnel department, Cowden or Wolf.

That said, I do think it’s telling the Breer mentions that Cowden hasn’t moved his family here. Maybe they didn’t want to move or maybe Cowden doesn’t see this as permanent.

But if the choice is keeping Cowden or keeping Wolf, I think I know who Vrabel would pick.

The Kraft's had too much say in drafting in 2024 IMO (any say is too much say).

I think I can.

I choose to believe last year's draft was Cowden's influence!

This is crap Rob. Blaming Wolf's draft on Belichick is crazy.

If I could see Wallace and Polk weren't worth a damn, anyone worth their salt could see it too. My god, I watched Wallace for 4 straight years.

Do you need me to post all my pre-draft Polk stuff?

This is basic.

They were bad.

Are bad.
