OT: Matthew Judon Being Waived in Miami

A moving dumpster is immediately a better pass rusher than Anfrenee Jennings, so I'm on board.
Statue??

Tua has $54M guaranteed for 2026.
I know. Speculation I've read is that Miami will eat the entire thing just to be rid of him.

IF they could turn back time...going UnDefeated against BB made Tua a lot of $$$$$.

NFL GM's need to be more responsible when it comes to paying players. This is a big reason why contracts for actual good players have become too difficult to sign. Tom Brady would've commanded $70M per season if he were in his 20's-30's in this era.

Worth a look, maybe, but it's probably just over for him. Sic transit gloria mundi.

He wasn’t great in the locker room on his way out. Stuff in the Miami press, which should be taken with a grain of salt, reports he’s been a pain in the ass behind the scenes everywhere he’s gone.

Which is hard for me to hear because he was my favorite Patriot when he was here.

Seems like a bad gamble with no upside

Only for this season...that's it. I'd want Landry, Chiasson and Ponder out there before Judon. He has knowledge he could pass on to younger players: Chiasson, Ponder and Swinson. Even Landry might learn a thing or two. He can put everything he's got into 5-15 snaps a game.

And Vrabel would also prefer to have Jennings and Tavai out there, his starting OLB's against BUF (3rd and 5th most reps at OLB against BUF).

In the end, the question whether to replace our #4 OLB (Ponder). My answer is a firm "no".

In passing situations? If you say so.

So if I wasn't clear..."I'd want Landry, Chiasson and Ponder out there before Judon.". What we're talking about here are passing downs. Generally teams use different LB's depending on down and distance....JK

OK, who is now out there on passing downs for 10-15 snaps that you would replace with Judon?

To be clear, I want Jennings out there over Judon. I think that Vrabel agrees or Judon would be signed by now.

He was never good, so what has he got that would be worth sharing with any other DE's, other than how to be an *******.

From Judon reunion? Don't bank on it. Why Patriots adding ex-Dolphins LB is unlikely

"Judon was not as well-liked by the coaches and front office people as you might have thought," Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer said on Boston Sports Tonight shortly after the trade. "That was really part of it at the end, was that they were just sick of him.
"They felt like there was the public-facing Judon, and then there was Judon behind the scenes. The Judon behind the scenes had sort of become a little bit of an operator, and his act had worn thin with people inside the building. And it’s something that was an issue in Baltimore, too, quite honestly."

This is why its tough to commit big money or draft assets to edge rushers over 30. He was only 32 when he hit the cliff after being our most important player the prior 3 seasons to that

No on Judon but can we pump the brakes on Swinson? Dude got cut the same year he was drafted, and has done absolutely nothing.

Swinson is a deep backup that is on the 53 as having potential for 2026. Vrabel has assembled several of these players.

They are usually inactive. Some examples are Swinson, Gregory, Wallace, Dippre, Bryant and DaVito.
========================================
Ponder is one with potential has succeeded in moving up the depth chart and contributing.
====
In addition, there are many with potential on the Practice Squad. The difference is that the ones on the 53 would be in more danger of being poached. Some have been elevated for a game or two or three. They go back to the Practice Squad.
========
For me, all the rest have their roles (well, except for Mapu who is the obvious cut should we need a roster spot).
