Mock simulators are so stupid.
Using PFSN's mock draft simulator, I have traded back twice from 32, to 35 and 55, picking up picks 86 and 103 and a Buffalo 2027 2nd round pick and giving up 132 and 210. So far I have taken:
55. Austin Siereveld, OL, Ohio St. (52)
64. TJ Parker, EDGE, Clemson (70)
86. Jake Golday, LB, Cincinnati (84)
Feeling pretty good so far, IOL, EDGE and LB addressed. I missed out on binky Kade Pieper (68).
My priorities are to build around the lines. DB and TE also priorities. Love the 2027 extra 2nd round pick.
Patriots on the clock at 96, with picks 103, 131, 172, 187, 191 and 193 left. Manx will cry when Emmanuel Pregnon is picked at 95.
The following players are left on PFSN's board:
86. Fa'alili Fa'amoe, OT, Wake Forest
87. Mateen Ibirogba, DL, Wake Forest
101. Zachariah Branch, WR, Georgia
102. Eli Raridon, TE, Notre Dame
104. Jonah Coleman, RB, Washington
108. Zion Young, EDGE, Missouri
118 Jardarian Price, RB, Notre Dame
123. PJ Williams, OT, SMU
127. Max Klare, TE, Ohio St.
132. Treydan Stukes, CB/S, Arizona
133. Cayden Green, OL, Missouri
134. Zakee Wheatley, S, Penn St.
137. Keionte Scott, CB/S, Miami
141. Malachi Lawrence, EDGE, UCF
160. Jelani McDonald, S, Texas
174. Carter Smith, OL, Indiana
178. Justin Joly, TE, NC St.
189. Rod Moore, S, Michigan
190. Romello Height, EDGE, Texas Tech
198. Niki Prongos, OT, Stanford
210. Lee Hunter, DT, Texas Tech
230. Akheem Mesidor, EDGE, Miami
254. Drew Allar, QB, Penn St.
288. Jyaire Hill, CB, Michigan
319. Monroe Freeling, OT, Georgia
The rankings are so stupid. Carter Smith at 174, Romello Height at 190, Akheem Mesidor at 230, Monroe Freeling at 319? Come on. So I'm mostly ignoring them.
What do I do at 96? Binkies Freeling, Prongos, McDonald, Wheatley and Scott are on the board. Lots of other guys I love.
I go RT at 96. Tough to pass up Zachariah Branch (101) and Jardarian Price (118), or EDGE, but protecting Drake Maye is my focus. Monroe Freeling would be my pick, but Niki Prongos and PJ Williams good options. Obviously, if I knew Freeling was 319 I would wait until the 6th or 7th round. But if Freeling were in this mock, I probably would have taken him at 32, definitely at 55. So I'm going to pretend Freeling is not in this draft. Tough call between Niki Prongos and PJ Williams. I would personally go Prongos, but I'm going to ignore him as well and go with PJ Williams. Campbell, Wilson, Siereveld and Williams will be a nasty line.
I took PJ Williams at 96, which in a real world would be great value. Now I have:
55. Austin Siereveld, OL, Ohio St. (52)
64. TJ Parker, EDGE, Clemson (70)
86. Jake Golday, LB, Cincinnati (84)
96. PJ Williams, RT, SMU (123)
At 101 I am going DB or EDGE. Zion Young (108) would have been nice to pair with TJ Parker, but he is off the board at 99.
4 of my favorite DBs are still on the board: Jelani McDonald (160), Zakee Wheatley (134), Keionte Scott (137), and Treydan Stukes (132). OLs Cayden Green (133) and Carter Smith (174) are also still available.
I'm going to try to trade back from 103. Philly has 120, 122 and 137 and Howie Roseman loves to trade, so I offer 103 and 187 for 122 and 136.
Trade accepted! Now I have 122, 131, 136, 172, 191 and 193.
Now at 122 I take S Jelani McDonald, over Zakee Wheatley, Keionte Scott, and Treydan Stukes. Would have been happy with any of them.
Now I have:
55. Austin Siereveld, OL, Ohio St. (52)
64. TJ Parker, EDGE, Clemson (70)
86. Jake Golday, LB, Cincinnati (84)
96. PJ Williams, RT, SMU (123)
122. Jelani McDonald, S, Texas (160)
At 131 I double up at DB. Wheatley, Scott, and Stukes are all still available. I want a nickle/safety hybrid, so it's Scott vs. Stukes for me. Take your pick. Scott is a binky, but is coming off of an injury, and Stukes can also provide some outside CB versatility, so I'm going with Stukes in this mock.
Now I have:
55. Austin Siereveld, OL, Ohio St. (52)
64. TJ Parker, EDGE, Clemson (70)
86. Jake Golday, LB, Cincinnati (84)
96. PJ Williams, RT, SMU (123)
122. Jelani McDonald, S, Texas (160)
131. Treydan Stukes, CB/S, Arizona (132)
At 136 and 172 I'm going EDGE and OL again, with TE an option as well. At 136 it comes down to Akheem Mesidor at EDGE vs. Cayden Green or Carter Smith on the OL. I can't pass up the chance to build out the OL. I love both Green and Smith, going Smith here. A 2027 OL of Campbell - Siereveld - Wilson - Smith - Williams will be a beast.
Now I have:
55. Austin Siereveld, OL, Ohio St. (52)
64. TJ Parker, EDGE, Clemson (70)
86. Jake Golday, LB, Cincinnati (84)
96. PJ Williams, RT, SMU (123)
122. Jelani McDonald, S, Texas (160)
131. Treydan Stukes, CB/S, Arizona (132)
136. Carter Smith, OL, Indiana (174)
Justin Joly (178) comes off the board at 151. Dang. Wanted him.
At 182 I go back to EDGE. akheem Mesidor (230) and Damon Wilson (147) are both available. Both are in my Toer 2 EDGE rush group, and day 2 values. All roads lead to Akheem Mesidor, so I ignore PFSN's rankings.
Now I have:
55. Austin Siereveld, OL, Ohio St. (52)
64. TJ Parker, EDGE, Clemson (70)
86. Jake Golday, LB, Cincinnati (84)
96. PJ Williams, RT, SMU (123)
122. Jelani McDonald, S, Texas (160)
131. Treydan Stukes, CB/S, Arizona (132)
136. Carter Smith, OL, Indiana (174)
172. Akheem Mesidor, EDGE, Miami (230)
TJ Parker and Akheem Mesidor would upgrade the pass rush big time. Jake Golday would also provide some rush potential.
My goals of upgrading the OL, pass rush/LB, and secondary have been achieved, at the expense of offensive skill players.
Now to round things off:
191. Jack Endries, TE, Texas (214)
193. Lee Hunter, DT, Texas Tech (210)
246.* Nyck Harbor, WR, S. Carolina (237)
I assume we will get 246 back from SF.
So my mock is:
55. Austin Siereveld, OL, Ohio St. (52)
64. TJ Parker, EDGE, Clemson (70)
86. Jake Golday, LB, Cincinnati (84)
96. PJ Williams, RT, SMU (123)
122. Jelani McDonald, S, Texas (160)
131. Treydan Stukes, CB/S, Arizona (132)
136. Carter Smith, OL, Indiana (174)
172. Akheem Mesidor, EDGE, Miami (230)
191. Jack Endries, TE, Texas (214)
193. Lee Hunter, DT, Texas Tech (210)
246.* Nyck Harbor, WR, S. Carolina (237)
I would love to find a way to get CB Jyaire Hill (288) as well.
I'd be very happy with that. OL, EDGE, LB and DB. 3 binkies. 2 mature prospects for Manx. Some late round guys with upside. Hunter would be a Tonga successor, and double up in heavy sets.
