They could have signed a QB off anyone's PS though... Zappe, Ellinger, Trask, Grier - guys who have started in the NFL and are in shape and ready.

This is pretty crazy. Is it actually unprecedented? Has there been a guy out for 5 years and comes back to play that week?

Even though it's a longshot i think teams in this situation are better off going after retired quarterbacks that were really good than they are going with back ups they have no confidence in. If you believe in your back up then go with them, if not take a longshot on a Flacco or Rivers etc...

He flopped a lot and complained often. It's a miracle that he could cuss so much yet never use a foul word.
Yeah he also played a season on a torn mcl. He’s a tough mfer. He played when qbs had to be.

(Edit torn ACL and not an entire season but still at least a game )

I believe so. Especially in that late age.

Wildly different between Flacco and Rivers. Flacco has been in the league every year. He wasn't retired and out of facilities and their training programs for 5 years before playing with the Bengals.

Being out of gameday shape is no joke.

That was the game where little lt sulked on the bench like a little *****

Steelers QB position has been just ss bad as ours prior to drake...
They drafted that kid from Pitt but other than that have mainly been stuck with the dregs of free agency. They desperately need a long-term solution, but they tend to do too well to get a high rookie in the draft.

Agreed. It's also remarkable how they didn't fall to the depths we did 4-13 amid thier QB play.. they do need to draft a guy.. they probably also look to sign another veteran while developing the rookie QB?

This really shows how bad Anthony Richardson really is..
Richardson is injured. But he was a bust from the start. They reached on him big time.

Maybe the Patriots can try and develop him for a backup role next season. But he needs to know he has zero chance of competing for the starting position. Or, maybe he goes elsewhere to start.

ya, I played in a basketball game after like 20 years of not playing and it was an embarrassment that still bothers me to this day. I was actually in great physical shape, so I figured "what's the harm?" ya, gameday shape sure is a thing!

Several years ago, I got back on a volleyball court to see if I could play again. When I went to block and barely got my fingers above the net, I knew I was done.

Surprised they didnt come calling for our Tommy Cutlets!

Good. His wife could probably use a break. That many kids, man.... yikes.
Sign all his kids, too and they can field an entire offense, RackN Demo Inquiry, and special teams unit.

I wonder if playing til 42-44 will become more common? Not saying a majority of quarterbacks will but we’ll get more and more players trying it

ha, what was "interesting" was how slow all my reflexes and thinking was. Turn around ... look at basket ... should I dribble ... should I shoot. Ball is stolen. All the stuff you used to just do automatically doesn't work anymore. Maybe 5 years out, it's still there, but I suspect Philip is going to get killed if he gets on the field.

Wouldn't be surprised if he gets hurt, but someone has to pay for all the condoms he's been plowing through since he retired.

Might as well bring back Jeff Saturday to coach and play center at the same time.

Back when I played basketball, I was the typical "quick guard". My speed was my best asset. I went to work after college and started playing regularly in a pick up league. I was still in my early twenties, so I still had the quickness and I played fairly well. Then a few years went by and the new hires got younger and younger. I wasn't even 30 when I realized I couldn't cut it anymore. I kept getting stripped, my shots were all getting blocked and I was getting beat to every loose ball out there. It wasn't until I tore up the ligaments in my thumb trying to block a pass that I admitted I was getting too old for it. I switched to volleyball and played that for another 25 years. These days, all I play are records & CDs. I get my exercise on an elliptical.
