Daniels: Vederian Lowe played much of 2024 with torn labrum

So, he had a 4 year contract and he has been on the 53 since was drafted? I thought that 6th rounders had 3 year contracts. I stand corrected.
Yes, he has been on a 53 since he was drafted, and, no, all drafted rookies get 4-year deals.

Lowe may go from a player who so many fans here derided as horrendous, to a FA we hope we can keep but will have competition.
I expect Lowe to continue to play at the level he showed on MNF. In other words, well enough to attract suitors when he hits free agency after this season.

At that level of play I’d like to see him stay here, but am resigned to seeing him offered more by some team in greater need of LT help than the Patriots are. This year he is in the last year of his rookie contract and with the salary bump Pats are paying him $3.4 million. I’m not sure what a good backup LT salary would be, but looks like he’s going to get a good raise.

Thayer Munford is on a one year contract now, so he will also be a free agent after the season, but likely with less competition for his services. So he’s likely to be our replacement for Lowe next year. Munford’s annual salary this year is $1.1 million, so he’s definitely going to be cheaper than Lowe.

Both Lowe and Munford are 26, so no significant difference there. Overall the two of them seem pretty comparable, they’re both good backup to possible starters at OT.

V-Lowe shouldn't be hard to retain...I wouldn't offer him more than $7Mill a year. IF a Team thinks he's worth more they can have him. That said: I could see us investing in a couple of swing Tackle types in the upcoming Draft.

Lowe is NOT on his rookie contract.

He was drafted in 2022.

Lowe IS on his rookie deal. Deals outside the 1st round are 4yr deals. 2022/2023, 2023/2024, 2024/2025, 2025/2026 (current).

Lowe was not waived by the Vikings at any point. He spent his entire rookie year on their 53 man roster, though he only appeared in 4 games.

Interesting. That link has him as a swing tackle playing both L and R sides. Since he’s been here seems he’s been exclusively playing on the left side. Useful to know that in the past he was seen as possibly having positional versatility. Thanks for posting that.
The Pats attempted to use Lowe on the Right side for 4 games (wk 3-6) in 2023.. In 139 pass snaps, he gave up 3 sacks, 2 hits, and 19 hurries. His horrid play is why they kicked Onwenu out to RT for the remainder of that season.

The issue with them attempting to use Lowe there is that he'd never taken any game snaps at RT in HS or College. And he'd spent 2022 exclusively at LT for the Vikings.

V-Lowe is going to get offered a deal to be a starting LT for someone. He was as good as Dan Moore, Jr and Cam Robinson. So he's likely to get over-paid.. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see him get offered a deal in the $12M-$18M range.

You are correct that another team will be interested in a healthy Lowe who plays adequately.

While many here hate Lowe, they are dismissing the critical shortage of LT talent in the league.

With Campbell out I am thankful we have Lowe to fill in.

With Lowe apparently setting himself up for a big payday (good for him!) I’m thankful we have Munford waiting in the wings.

What's funny is the people who ignore the fact that a crappy Dan Moore got 20.5M APY.. So them disagreeing with the idea that Lowe will likely get 12M-18M to be a starting LT shows how out of touch they are with the league.

1) Why do we believe that Munford is anywhere as good as Lowe?

2) If Munford is almost as good as Lowe, why do we think that he would be an easy free agent signing for us?

3) After all, it is simply a matter of price. The market will decide the value of free agent starters, backups at LT or RT only, and the value of swing OT's who can step right in and contribute. And yes, there is even value in the #4 OT position if a team chooses.

4) I don't know what the alternatives will be in free agency, how many other teams are competing, and what it will cost to get our backup LT. As we see now, it is indeed important to have a backup who can contribute.

5) Finally, I do NOT want to count on a rookie to be our backup LT. I prefer a veteran swing backup and then perhaps a draftee, although we have no real need at LT if we have a OK veteran backup (as was the case for this season).

Comes from a better college program. Munford played five years for Ohio State. Lowe played five years for Illinois.
Munford has played in more NFL games (46) than Lowe (38). They both entered the league in 2022.
Munford has started almost as many games (18) as Lowe (21).
Munford is 6’6”, 345. Lowe is 6’5”, 315.
They’re very similar players.
2) If Munford is almost as good as Lowe, why do we think that he would be an easy free agent signing for us?
This year Munford has bounced between practice squads. He hasn’t been in high demand.

Agreed.

Munford is an experienced swing tackle. So why are you ****ting on a player that fits your preferred profile?

Dugger played with a high ankle sprain for Mayo. Vrabel makes Williams and Wilson sit and heal
Question? Campbell as Breen reported as " significant " MCL tear. Personally I don't see him back this season it's 6 weeks for recovery then rehab, ect.. provided Lowe continues to play well... should Vrabel just keep Campbell on IR and allow him to make a full recovery?

Vrabel will protect the player. We have no idea how bad the MCL injury is. We will see.

I do not believe anything Breer says. Breer has no sources.
Ok. But yeah I'm leaning towards Campbell probably not back this season.. Lowe has every incentive to play well.. he could see a nice contract for himself as a reserve OT..

Wasn't it said first that it might not be so significant and Will Campbell would be back for the Playoffs?? Where is this BS news coming from??

While Munford is a LT...he can swing to RT better then Lowe. Munford may see a chance to start at RT for the Patriots which may keep him at backup for now. Lowe on the other hand cannot play RT and will want $ to start at LT elsewhere with Campbell at LT for the Patriots.
