It's easy, and only takes a few moments.@Pape you seem to be the only one to understand the thread here.. it's in SUPPORT of gonzo and simply putting up what Callahan and Giardi had to say..Has been playing great football ... does better in man vs zone ... can man up on any receiver he's covering ... last year he started slow but came on over the course of the season ... this year he did not have a slow start to begin the year by my reckoning... Has drawn only 2 flags... compare him to Surtain, who has 5, with two DPI calls... An added bonus - he is in year 3, and he's only 23 years old...
Durability is a back of the mind concern... but when he plays, he plays well... as is his next contract... he will be expensive ... worth the cost, but expensive ...
What I think is that it’s typical for BSM and this board to be looking for negatives to discuss when talking about a team coming off a 4 win season, that preseason was expected to total 8 or 9 wins, questionable to even make the playoffs, and now two thirds of the way through the season is 10-2 with the best record in the NFL and competing for the only AFC playoff bye. Sheesh.
Absolutely positively correct.. Giardi is the new Ron Borges.. I wanted to post the video to get a reaction from the board.. as I highly disagree with the notion he's having a down season.. the secondary was allowing big pass plays when gonzo was out.. he's the primary reason we get coverage sacks..Came here to say this.
National analysts/talking heads lean on BSM to get an understanding of the team. I tell peeps around here that no one hates Boston sports teams more than the local media, and I feel like the national discourse being so down on the Pats is at least, in part, the work of the BSM. They were a major factor in Cameragate and in trying to distract the team before SB42.
**** them...seriously.
The Pats have had some excellent to elite CBs over the years. Law, Talib, Revis, Gilmore... Butler for a short window.... Samuel. That's just the Dynasty Era. Where would you put Gonzalez at this point?Has been playing great football ... does better in man vs zone ... can man up on any receiver he's covering ... last year he started slow but came on over the course of the season ... this year he did not have a slow start to begin the year by my reckoning... Agreed. Gonzo has the technique of Law, the instincts of revis, confidence of gilly, he's probably the most physically gifted out of all of them? The Pats have had some excellent to elite CBs over the years. Ty Law - So smart, such great instinctsThe Pats have had some excellent to elite CBs over the years. Law, Talib, Revis, Gilmore... Butler for a short window.... Samuel. That's just the Dynasty Era. Where would you put Gonzalez at this point?
Lee bodden get any honorable/worth mentioning?Ty Law - So smart, such great instincts
Revis - Ostensibly, Revis is a better overall player than Law, but he was only here for a ring, he gets demoted
Gonzales/ Gilmore , with the caveat that Gonzales has a greater upside because he came into the league at such a young age...
Talib
Butler

Ellis Hobbs

Can you remember a single thing about Leigh Boddens time here? yeah, me neither.Lee bodden get any honorable/worth mentioning?
I knew that would get your attention... I can also remember a "single thing" about your boy hobbs.. actually I don't want to remember it...Can you remember a single thing about Leigh Boddens time here? yeah, me neither.
So, the tldr version: No.
I don't know. Part of me thinks he's a product of the NFL hype machine. He's damned good but he doesn't pile up INTs like Ty Law did. So is he not being tested? His passes defended is low, so that tells me he's not being tested. Is that because he's Gonzo Island or is that because teams view him as much better than other options?Agreed. I put Ryan over Hobbs only because Hobbs was vertically challenged and got beat by Plexiglass in 2007. I have zero problem with your huge gap from Butler to the rest of the field. That's accurate IMO. Pre-2007, Samuel is in that upper group, but I have no problem with your ranking of him. Many of us feel that bias.Ty Law - So smart, such great instincts

Good points Steve.. I do believe he in gonzo takes away a QBs first read.. he allows others like Jones to make the plays.. I know revis one season had low INTs a time before.. gonzo coverage and his ability to play the run are top notch..he also doesn't have a ferocious pass rush like surtain, Stingley jr.. who's in his class. Also ty played in the era primarily before the rule changes..I don't know. Part of me thinks he's a product of the NFL hype machine. He's damned good but he doesn't pile up INTs like Ty Law did. Ty Law had a killer instinct for critical turnovers... didn't always translate to picks, but it was dangerous passing against him... haven't seen Gonzales develop that yet articular skill yetI don't know. Gonzo had more INTs last season.. could also still be this is a new defense for him?Ty Law had a killer instinct for critical turnovers... didn't always translate to picks, but it was dangerous passing against him... haven't seen Gonzales develop that yet articular skill yet
no issues with that - it's a 1a/1b type back and forth... ie, no point in arguing itRyan over Hobbs

Go watch some of the early games with Ty Law... you will see what I mean... he understood what the QB was doing, and when he had the chance to make a play, he took it... Watching him versus Peyton Manning in a few of those games? Thats some of the best CB play you will ever seeGonzo had more INTs last season.. could also still be this is a new defense for him?
................................yet.
Nah… Revis was overrated because he was in NY and they overrate everything. Anything in NY is the best… just ask them.Ty Law - So smart, such great instincts
